INCAR GPS

Post by emant » 29 March 10 3:00 pm

Hi everyone.
We are just new to all of this so I am sorry for all my stupid questions.

I wanted to know if there are any incar gps that you can download the caches to?
I already have a garmin etrexH and I am due for a new incar gps.
I am already sick of all the paper that I have for the few caches that we are trying to find.
I don't want to buy another handheld gps[wife would kill me]..If this question has been done before please point me in the right direction as all of my searches for this have come up empty.

Thanks

There are no stupid questions, just stupid answers.

I have a TomTom OneXL. It is easy to load the caches to, but not quite as easy to load the notes etc if that is what you want. To load the waypoints you can export a file from GSAK and upload it to the memory card.

I have seen discussions here quite a while ago about installing some other software on it with a bigger SD card to allow you to upload the descriptions etc as well, but never bothered. I just take the laptop with me if I need to look things up on the road.

I use a Garmin Nuvi 1250 in the car.

Using GSAK and jjreds Macro "Gpx_by_Cache_Type" I have all caches in Queensland downloaded with descriptions and logs.

I have the alerts set to 500m radius and this works great on a trip.

The only downside I have found is that you cannot bring up a map and look at all the nearby caches on it.

I have a Navman MY50T, I uploaded all the caches in NSW as points of interest. They show up as a little pins on all the maps. It can also alert you when you are in a certain radius of one. The only draw back is it seems impossiable to search for a individual cache name. This unit has traffic alerts built in.
