mount for Dakota GPSr
mount for Dakota GPSr
as the Dakota is a little more chuby than my Vista it doesn't quiet fit on my current car mount, so I need yet another car mount.
I've been looking at some OEM models on Ebay , just wondering if anyone has any recommendations.
I see some like these : Generic or some RAM mounts which I can reuse the Base for other devices.
then there is the expensive Garmin one as well which is well over $50, doh

Re: mount for Dakota GPSr
I've been using Ram Mount for all our GPSr's, with the new Dakota mounts arriving the other day from Johnny Appleseed - RAM Dakota Plastic RAM Holder.
The beauty is that they are modular and able to be customised to suit almost any environment. We can remove the dakota mounting in seconds and run a Netbook/Laptop from the same location.
Setup
$15 for the Dakota mount
Cheap Option
$20 RAM Twist Suction Diamond Base
Better Option
$35 Pivot Suction Mount Twist Lock
My Setup
$62 RAM Twist Suction Cup Mount
.....though i do use a better double socket arm twist ($20):
After using the Garmin ones for some time, i can say their suction mounts doesn't come anywhere near the Ram Mounts in terms of suction and rigidity. Price does buy quality in this case.
I should also mention that if you are operating the GPSr off-road, then a good mount that locks the unit solid is needed. Many of the vehicle navigation units end up facing down after a simple bump or two. Also vibration needs to be minimised for such travel, to be able to read the display correctly.
Hope that helps

Re: mount for Dakota GPSr
I've been very happy with my RAM mount too. I have used extensively in the car and on the push bike.
I have the set up that is $62 in MM's post. (with the handle bar mount for the bike, of course.)

Re: mount for Dakota GPSr
BTW i just received the new replacement for the old u-bolt setup for handlebars, gunnels etc last week. My old one collapsed after "someone" overtightened the nylocks recently.roundcircle wrote:(with the handle bar mount for the bike, of course.)
