The laptop I have has a built in webcam. I want to run an external USB webcam instead. I have tried to disable the internal webcam, but have not been successful.
And what is it for?
I want to be able to stream live footage while I drive to a friend in the states. Obviously I cant plant the laptop on the dash facing forward, so I want to have the laptop on the seat, and the webcam attached to the rear vision mirror. I can them upload using my mobile broadband.
Cheers

With mine I had to go into the control panel under Device Manager and then go into the imaging devices which was about the 10th one down the list of devices. Of course this will vary between computers... I clicked the little + sign to extend the list of imaging devices then right clicked and selected Properties, I think double clicking on the imaging device works also. Once I am in properties, I select Drivers and then Disable. You will get a warning about disabling will make it not work blah blah blah... Just click yes to continue...
You should be able to connect to your external device now.
I am working with Vista so this may be slightly different on your computer.
