Strange Co-Ordinates

Post by Tui65 » 09 June 09 11:28 am

I've been given some GPS Co-ords that I don't regognise and can't enter into my GPS.

Can anyone else make some sense of them?

S21 75 58 E140 39 18

There appears to be a number missing off each set and as far I know it's not possible to go past 60 minutes. ie: 21 75 58

Many thanks
Regards
John

Might be a couple of dropped 0s?

eg:
S21 07 558 E140 03 918
Puts it 65km south east of Cloncurry.

(Also if you go to you forum profile and change "always allow HTML" to no you will get spaces to display in your posts.)

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like Caughtatwork is on the money. Decimals make sense. Does anyone have any idea how I put Decimal co-ords in a Garmin GPS12?

Also just so you know the co-ordinates I have quoted are to nowhere in particular I just made those numbers up to give you an idea of the co-ords I was given.

Many thanks
Regards
John

As I own a Garmin 12 I can assist...You will have to go into your setup and change the co-ords thing to decimals and then It should be good.

or just multiply the decimal part by 60 to convert it to minutes.

Thanks to all who replied, especially Camstal. It's all sorted now.

For anyone that may encounter a simular problem here's a great conversion calculator:

http://www.rcn.montana.edu/resources/to ... spx?nav=11

just remember that Latitude is negative here is Aus.

John
