i tried using mapsource, but it seemed to overwrite/delete the city navigator maps and leave me with a base map and the contours
From the Garmin Support FAQs:
Question: Why does my unit remove maps that I previously loaded when I load a new map?
Answer:
The mapping storage is like flash memory. Every time data is loaded it will write over previous mapping data. The way around this is to pick all the maps you want in one download. If you have a
multiple software programs such as Bluecharts and City Navigator you will need to select maps from one then choose your other mapping program and select maps from that. This will put maps in your maps list on the left hand side next to the map. Then just like normal and send to the device. Now both types of maps will go to the unit.

I think you're referring to Spindoc Bob's reply, which refers to a situation where maps are already installed on a Windows machine.
My problem is that the files are in .exe format... a format only able to be read by Windows. I'm hunting for a .sit or .zip file, a format that can be read by both Windows and Mac. Once I can unarchive the file it'll be fine (as I can use Bobcat or other software to load them), it's just getting the file in a format that Macs can unarchive.

I'll make up a ZIP file version and post it up for you and anyother Mac users. Just give me a couple of days to do it.

I've downloaded the PC to Mac map converter from Garmin website and converted the CA2 maps for the Mac. I've uploaded the file to
my site . I can't tell you how to install them or if they work as I don't have a Mac. Someone out might like to try it and see if it works.
I'm also working on a new version to smooth out the contour lines and fill in the missing data areas. Also add a new 5m contour layer for the 120m zoom level and below.

I've got 1/3 of Australia done now from 11 to 22 deg, west to east coast. Also filling in those holes in the data along the way. Looks good so far. Redoing the 10m and thinking about making a 25m for those people that don't need soon much detail that the high zoom levels. Got a few other things up my sleeve should make it really good this time. I was never happy with the last version.

Thanks Spindoc. Just don't ask for the rule the galaxy version as I'll have to take a pass on it

Hey Dooghan,
Any chance of a comparison between CA2 - 5m data and TopoPlus Australia 5m?

You buy me a copy and I'll do it
I believe that TopoPlus uses the free SRTM data, which is the same data that I'm using. Looks to be the same but I could be wrong. Is that a good enough comparison.
