Free Aussie maps for PalmOS HandMap!
About bloody time!
HandMap's written by an Aussie (in Melbourne, I think) but one of the last places in the world to be covered is Oz.
However, that's changed now!
You can find a set of maps here.
For those who don't know it, Handmap's a small mapping program that'll auto-centre on a GPSr (serial or Bluetooth) and let you search for intersections and streets and such. No voice prompts, no auto-routing, but it does integrate with the addressbook and (I seem to recall) one of the GPX programs...
(I've grabbed a copy, just in case we break this poor person's server!)

Seems there's enough to slashdot the original link, so here's a copy on a nice, big server:

(I have no idea where these maps came from. If someone can tell if they're legal or not, I'd appreciate a warning so I can remove them if required!)

I am a bit confused about the costs involved to use HandmapFor those who don't know it, Handmap's a small mapping program that'll auto-centre on a GPSr (serial or Bluetooth) and let you search for intersections and streets and such. I have downloaded the free ? Trial version.
Am I right in thinking that you have to pay around $30 to unlock the viewer and then usually $xx to $xxx for maps or map sets to use with it?
To use these free maps will I still need to pay for the viewer?
Oh and whats the best GPSr to attach to the (in my case) Palm E2

Hmm.. usually you need the paid version to view purchased maps, but you'll have to experiment with these to see if they're treated the same way. (I suspect so, but mine's a full version so I can't test it empirically!)Navigull wrote:I am a bit confused about the costs involved to use Handmap

Since your E2's got Bluetooth, just about any BT GPSr should work. Except for serious urban canyons and mountain passes, you probably don't need anything too fancy. See what you can pick up on TradeMe or ebay. (I use a Holux GR-230)
