<P>The price at DSE (Dick Smith Electronics) is down to $899 - and you can get a further $50 rebate by sending a form off to the manufacturers. I ordered one today (none in stock - they're having a big run on them!)

Is that for the go 500?

I think JB hifi are a bit cheaper again at the moment.

New model on the way so old models drop in $$$

<P>It is for the GO 500 - their catalogue and website price is still $999, so it's a pretty new special. The local JB doesn't seem to stock them, and Harvey Norman is still charging $1099

TomTom's Australian web page is now advertising that when you buy a TomTom GO300, GO500, ONE or RIDER (after the 1st of May 2006) you are entitled to a free map update. For those who bought their TomToms before that date, you can participate in the Australian Map Update Program to be eligible for a discounted map update. The standard price for the Australian Map Download is A$339.00 but, as a participant in the TomTom Map Update program you can purchase the Australian Map Update for A$139.00. Go to http://www.tomtom.com/page.php?Page=map-australia&Lid=8 , print and fill in the form, and send it off before 31 July. The update is from v12 Sensis maps to V13, via download.

If its download then you must be able to write it to the SD card, Only need one copy then ;)

Grank should be eligible for free upgrade of these maps as he bought after the required date (1 may)..

I suspect that the map update file can be saved and *ahem* burnt..

If it's like other TomTom maps, you have to use your Device Code and the map Product Code to generate an Activation Code, which means it will probably only run on one device.

the form requires device code from the "about " screen and the serial number and proof of purchase (receipt copy).

Thanks for the heads up on this maccamob .... and Team Piggy for reminding me of the date I bought mine ... 20 May when I checked .. I was all ready set to fork out the $139 as I had just assumed that I had been caught out by some marleteer clawingback the $50 discount!

It's all good.

Hmm, Still sounds like it is then downloaded as a whole. And can possibly be loaded more than once?
The device code & everything are to get the autho to get to the download page.?

If Grank wants to let us all know how it works? Eg: Submiti info get download page? Enter code, Save download to PC, then Burn a "backup" copy....
