Download GPX to oregon
Download GPX to oregon
Is there anyone there who can tell me what I'm doing wrong. I have my new oregon, I connected it to the computer, I did the gsak thing "send waypoints to gps" and my explorer seems to see gpx files on the oregon under the "garmin" directory but when I click on the little "geocaches" icon on the gps, it's empty. Somehow i think they must be labelled wrongly or something.

Sometimes that happens to me too!
I'd be interested in finding the cause.
I just delete it and send it again.

How do you delete it? Just using explorer on the computer?

Re: Download GPX to oregon
Yeah, just through explorer.
Re: Download GPX to oregon
Did that. Loaded again. There's a file called geocaches.gpx but the "goecaches" button still comes up with "none found" I guess I'll ask at the event today, with a bit of luck someone will be able to actually see what basic thing I've set up wrong. Thanks for the suggestion

Actually, the waypoints are all there. you know the additional "parking" and stuff that you get with some caches. So that park worked ok ?? annoying

Re: Download GPX to oregon
It sounds like you are just up loading the waypoint itself.
I use Export => GPX/LOC file to send the GPX file to my oregon. you can find it by clicking on File in GSAK (once the DB that you want to export is on the screen) then hover over "Export" and click on GPX/Loc File from the drop down list. give the file a name or look for an existing file in File Name to Create box i.e. I:\Garmin\GPX\GCA.gpx where I is the drive letter for either your Oregon internal memory or it's SD card then click Generate. All done good luck

Thanks for the suggestions. That certainly got a much bigger file onto the gps but it still doesn't seem to find it when I ask it for "geocaches" I'll get there soon....just need to try some more stuff.
Re: Download GPX to oregon
There's a folder in the gps called garmin/gpx/current. Should the file end up in there? I moved it there but didn't seem to make a difference

!!!!!!!!!!???????????????%%%%%%%%%###########!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have NO idea what I did differently but I deleted it all and reloaded and it's all there.
But who cares - i can go caching now, no need to spend the day doing housework

Well done blossom*
And to think when you first started caching you didn't even have a computer at home! Now you are uploading maps and stuff and everything!
Your last post is quite a common reaction.

The current folder is for the trace logs/tracking option.blossom* wrote:There's a folder in the gps called garmin/gpx/current. Should the file end up in there? I moved it there but didn't seem to make a difference
Deleting and uploading again magically works for me. No idea why. Magic.
Re: Download GPX to oregon
unlike my old etrex the oregon will keep let you load more caches (including additional waypoints like parking, trailhead etc) than it can keep all of the information without telling you that the menory is full.
I have a 550 that can take 5000 waypoints. I made the mistake of loading 5000 caches, but with waymarking and other files I ended up with over 7000 waypoints (when I downloaded it to GSAK). on the maps it showed the caches but could not give me any information about the caches or navigate o them.
now I make sure I stay under the limit and I haven't had any problems
