Help wanted to Synchronise a dedicated Geocaching PC
Hi All,
I have just purchased an Aesus EEE, and would like to be able to automatically synchronise it with my main PC via a wireless network every time I turn it on at home.
I have set up a home network and have had a small success, as I can use the main pc to manually transfer files to and from the Aesus.
However the reverse is not the case, I get a permission error every time I use the Aesus and attempt to copy a file to or from the main PC.
I have set up shared folders on both PC's, but am at a loss attempting to discover why only one PC will do as I want. Any help or advice will be gratefully received.
???

As others have said, the firewall is the main offender in these situations.
I find the wireless on my eeePC a bit on the slow side.
Sometimes I find it easier just to copy the data folder from GSAK on my main PC onto a USB stick, then overwrite the folder on my ASUS.
The database will repair itself the next time GSAK is started and you are good to go.
But if you can get your wireless up an running at a decent speed, do it wirelessly as you planned, it is less hassle.

Is this required for all home network connections? I had my home set up with shared files and folders between the Laptop and the Desktop wirelessly but after having to revert to the restore disk I can no longer do so...<P>I have tried changing the settings on the firewalls (both computers have the same program Trend Micro)CanSolo wrote:Otherwise if other PC is XP, make sure the Guest account is enabled to allow for anonymous connections

OS is XP on both devices.CanSolo wrote:What OS is the home PC?? If Vista, go into the Network and Sharing Centre and make sure Password Protected Sharing is off. By default, it is turned on.

Turned Guest on, and no difference.

Looking in My Network Places on the Aesus, I can see the other PX appearing in the list.
When I click on a folder I get the message:
"Ian-stuartfoldername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found."
(foldername may be various shared folders on the main PC)

Same issue with my network? I wonder if it has to do with a SP3 issue or similar as the only thing I can see in common is XP.ian-and-penny wrote:Looking in My Network Places on the Aesus, I can see the other PX appearing in the list.

You are not signed in as administrator, did you make a new user when setting up all that time ago ?? Sign yourself up as admin and see how you go !ian-and-penny wrote:Looking in My Network Places on the Aesus, I can see the other PX appearing in the list.

Tried all the solutions in these links, and then some besides, all to no avail.
Could this be a router problem (Netgear FWG114P)
Does anyone have the time and inclination to talk me through this, step by step - via correspondence (e-mail) over the next couple of days/weeks?
How about you try this link - I have had similar problems at work getting this issue too - more to do with the firewalls causing the default IP stack to not handle enough connections
