Geocaching, google it.
Geocaching, google it.
I have a button on my browser that does a google search for "geocaching", and whenever I want to go to the Geocaching Australia website I click that button, and then follow the google link to Geocaching Australia. Usually it's the second or third link, tonight it was number one!
Very different results in IE though, coming in at number 21. Perhaps Firefox has just learnt to give me the results I want, and all my attempts at pushing GCA up the Google Ranks have been in vain.

GCA is at the top only because you are using www.google.com.au.

If you use the Google search engine for other countries, like:

www.google.co.uk
www.google.com.my

then the primary site is listed at the top, and GCA doesn't get a guernsey.

Predictably, The Geocaching Association of Great Britain (www.gagb.org.uk) appears towards the top when you use www.google.co.uk.

Cheers,

I reckon you're right... can't seem to go to google.com to confirm, it keeps redirecting me to google.com.audak's Emu Mob wrote: GCA is at the top only because you are using www.google.com.au
Now can you tell me whether my clicking the GCA link in google every day for the last year or so has been a factor in moving it to primary position?!
Re: Geocaching, google it.
I don't know how you get to the America centric version of google (I suspect you probably can't) from here, but doing the query from a box in the USA geocaching.com.au ranks 265 right after "Geocaching Michigan Audubon Interim Policy".zactyl wrote:I reckon you're right... can't seem to go to google.com to confirm, it keeps redirecting me to google.com.au :shock:dak's Emu Mob wrote: GCA is at the top only because you are using www.google.com.au
On the supposedly nation agnostic google http://www.google.com/intl/en/ the geocaching.com.au ranks 21st.
Our friend google is quite opaque at times. :)

Go to :
http://www.google.com.au/
On the last set of links, there should be one that says Go to Google.com
Click it and it's stops the redirection.

I'm pretty sure that gives you, well... lets call it 'generic' google. It's the same url, but not the same content, as you'd get if you were searching from the US.caughtatwork wrote:Go to :

we used to be a lot higher on the international rankings (we dimly recall we got to #2) but the price we paid was having google crawl all the cache pages on a regular basis. this was hammering the server so we eventually put in a robots.txt file to stop it.
good to see we are #1 in oz though! thanks for all the links to gca!
