My Stars Won't Update

Post by dak's Emu Mob » 24 November 07 12:58 pm

G'day,

I have tried the automatic stars update feature, but it's not working for me. It merely says: "The forums stars for dak's Emu Mob have been updated to: 4000 or more caches found." In fact, I've found over 5000 caches.

I've tried this a couple of times over the past couple of months, thinking that perhaps it might take some time for my stats to update.

So, I'm wondering what the feature uses to determine how many caches I've found? My GCA profile page says I have 5225 finds.

Cheers,

It uses your finds as logged on GCA. Its giving you a correct answer, but maybe not the one you expect, 5225 is more than 4000 and the accompanying photo is a star nursery.

Which, as I said in my original post, is 5225!

Well, 5225 is more than 5000 too, so why doesn't it show me as having more than 5000 finds?

I note that it shows 'more than 4000 finds' for maccamob also, so perhaps the system just shows 'greater than 4000 finds for *any* number of finds greater than 4000. If my surmise is correct, that would have been a more helpful answer.

Thanks for taking the time to answer.

Cheers,

I'll have to check the codebase to verify the upper limit and that's on a different computer.

I've just had a look at the Star System that has a link under the "General Chit-Chat" Section of the Forum and the Star System only shows the star combinations up to 1600 finds. What happens after that as many cachers are now exceeding 1600? What does 5000 look like and what does 4000 look like for that matter? Anyone worked out a combination???

Have a look at Dak's post, (two above yours) it has the 4000 and above star nursery.

The system was beginning to get unwieldy, with starts changing every 50 finds and a limited amount of space we would have to start using subtle colour changes and with a bunch of uncalibrated monitors out there you couldn't be sure you were seeing the correct shade.

OK, I'm with you. So you get a Star Burst. Fair enough.

At the moment, 4000 is the top number in the rankings.

I will insert an entry for 5000 and then if you can do a stars update it will hopefully work.

The next ranking will be 10000 so you'll need to wait a while before you hit the next one.

I've been thinking about this (in bed last night), and I reckon I have a scheme that would be good for totals up to 49900!

I'll give it further thought, and propose a new system here that people can comment on.

Stay tuned.

As long as it doesn't affect my stars,
I don't care if I find 1000 or more,
I like my 5 shiny red stars and want to keep them as is.

There is a proposal for a new system of allocating stars for number of cache finds here.
