But isn't the real topic:

I'm interested to see how the term 'enough' is going to be defined.

B. :D
Hey Bronze ;)

I just threw the 'enough' in there because I know how negatively geocoining is viewed by certain members of GCA, and people such as the mods could just say no to a new forum. C'est la vie. :P

But I was stunned there is SO MUCH interest! :D

I'm not going to throw a tantrum or leave the forums because of it, but I have noticed many of the revered ancients are opposed to geocoins. I just wonder why? Who or what, precisely, are they hurting? (except for the addicted fools who keep buying/trading more and more of them to fuel their habit)

Excuse me while I don my fire-retardant suit.... ;)

Hey Cheesy, I think your comment deserves a themed response... http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1272482

It's my own little reminder to behave myself in the forums. I suppose if anyone takes this the wrong way, I'll need a fire-retardant suit of my own

Why do I not like geocoins?

Well for me it was when the individual icons for the coins appeared, before that they had the generic coin stack icon. The individual icons appears to have generated the Icon collector.... Just another stat for people to gloat over, in my books

Not in our lifetime I'd guess. GCA and geocoins aren't on friendly terms.

Because trackable coins are only trackable in GC caches. You need to buy the trackable numbers from Groundspeak to use the coins, while GCA tries to keep Geocaching free and open in all respects.

Hence, I believe, the reason why there are so many anti-coiners about ;)

I still think they're really pretty, and shiny and where has that Map Monkey drool icon gone?  Ahhhh, here it is! Image Mmmmm coins Image

Couldn't they be swaggies - perhaps with the password on the coin rather than the tracking ID to get around the activation and the need for a preloaded SWxxxx code?

That's almost a double dare

 They could be non-trackable coins, and you could attach them to a swaggie..... :P

I'm a fairly new geocacher and am not aware of the history of many topics such as this one, but I often wonder to myself why people have such strong opinions on something like geocoins. If you aren't into it, just leave it there, if you are, hold the lovely shiny colourful thing in your hand and admire it, then move it on. Map Monkey gave me my first geocoin, even though he didn't know me, and I was quite impressed by his generosity. I have heard it said that really it's just $10 worth of metal, but if you like them, well enjoy them as part of this fun activity. It is supposed to be fun, right?

More like $0.50 worth of metal and $9.50 of shiney-prettyness.

Can we give them their own section please.
