what happened was that there used to be two google earth links: the original one was under an /xml directory and the subsequent one was under the /caches directory. over time we put all the new stuff under the /caches directory but didn't turn off the /xml directory as so many people were using it and it would be a hassle for them to change.
when we did the code walkthrough, we only re-enabled the /caches directory version of the google earth stuff, not realising that the wiki pointed to the old /xml directory. we figure we might as well use this opportunity to delete the old /xml stuff to make the site easier to maintain. we just need to update the wiki so that we are letting people know the new /caches directory version.
