Post by necromancer » 01 July 07 10:09 pm

anyone else having problems with the geocache link on google earth? had to format my computer and have just re-installed everything-clicked on the link in wiki which creates the google earth link but comes up with an error...is it just me or a fault with the website?

It's working for me.
What's the actual error message you're getting?

Hmmmmmmmmm.

That could either be due to the small changes that are being made behind the scenes at GCA OR it could be the new version of Google Earth doesn't like the link.

Can you give it a day or so and try again and by then we should be finished with any changes.

what happened was that there used to be two google earth links: the original one was under an /xml directory and the subsequent one was under the /caches directory. over time we put all the new stuff under the /caches directory but didn't turn off the /xml directory as so many people were using it and it would be a hassle for them to change.

when we did the code walkthrough, we only re-enabled the /caches directory version of the google earth stuff, not realising that the wiki pointed to the old /xml directory. we figure we might as well use this opportunity to delete the old /xml stuff to make the site easier to maintain. we just need to update the wiki so that we are letting people know the new /caches directory version.
