cache updates [closed]
we had added a cache update service for your caching pleasure
it sends out a daily email with new and updated caches
to subscribe, go to your forum profile and select "Send me cache updates"
all feedback welcome (post it here)
at this stage it's text only (no html) but if there are enough people who want html, we will add it
regards,
george

here's an example update - jam-packed with info:
- sorted by state
- nearest town (calculated from the mapping database)
- link to the secondary site
- link to maps
- details of what changed, eg terrain, location, etc
we plan for it to come out every day, well before the secondary site's weekly updates

the cache updates are on hold because the roblisa site has disappeared! more news as it comes to hand.
leek, yes, the location names get wrong when it comes to suburban caches. its a city/country thing: if we get the city accurate, then the country ones match on the local mountain range or whatever. we'll see if we can work out something better if and when roblisa returns!

we have automated the cache update service. as soon as roblisa's site gets more info, it automatically triggers geocaching australia to grab the new info, update its database and send out the update email.
this means that the update emails will hopefully become more regular
let us know if there are any problems

you're welcome
as discussed in the rss thread, cache updates are currently offline while we write a new version which handles multiple cache feeds. we expect that it will be back online in a few days.

we've finally restarted some simple daily cache updates. those who subscribe to the updates would hopefully have received a catch-up email showing new caches since 20 june.
sorry for the delay. it's because we have been battling microsoft outlook to display html. we can get html displaying in hotmail, gmail, etc, but not outlook. we curse microsoft daily. please join in.
the updates aren't as functional as the previous ones, but we have been getting requests along the lines of "something is better than nothing" so we thought we'd at least get them restarted
what's new
- cache updates are by state. to select your state, join the state group by clicking on the usergroups link on the top left side of the page and follow the instructions. if you want to get multiple state mailings, then join multiple groups. we rejoice in finally using the groups functionality of the board.
what's the same
- you still need to opt-in to receive updates. you can do this in your profile (first option in "preferences")
what's not there (yet)
- cache changes, eg changed coordinates, etc. we plan to do this
- nearest locations. we plan to do this as well. we will probably also display distance and bearing from major locations to give you a better idea of where the cache is
