Post by Team Red Roo » 16 October 05 3:05 pm

I want to upload photos to the GCA photo gallery but have trouble logging in.

How do I go about it?

Instructions are in the following topic.

But basically, login at the moment to gallery.geocaching.com.au as

Username: gcauser
Password: 2teaPOT

And from there you can create appropriate galleries along the way.

Preference would be to stick any new galleries in an appropriate group category - such as Event Caches or Locationless.

I had a little swim in the code on the weekend with a view to getting things integrated. I didn't get far, but it's on the radar. :)

Rog,

Is it a case of integrating Gallery with GCA logins, or Gallery with the phpBB logins side, from which the GCA logins join in?

I'm about to attempt to do it soon on some sites I'm building, so have poked about looking for info. These links might help...

Also, the next questions more curiosity than anything... I'm guessing you don't manually add the coordinates to each of your photos. What do you use to add the coordinates to the photos?

Thanks Partic, that's one of the sites I have been swimming around on. :)

The efforts continue, I didn't realise this would be such a PITA.

Adding coords to photos was done using OziPhotoTool. It rocks.

I'm upgrading the gallery and installing the snailsource integration mod tonight and over the next few evenings. Things might be a bit crappy.

Ok, I've applied the beginnings of the integration. The gallery link from the forum is currently broken. I'll fix it later.

The gallery integration - see gallery link at the top of the forum is now working again, and somewhat better than it was. Given the appropriate setup of album permissions, people should be able to do things under their own account names. Feel free to play around with this, but try not to make too much of a mess.

TODO:
* Upgrade forum to avoid the permissions hack
* Clean up (using admin account), and work out best structure for next stage of integration (uploading images for cache logs).
* Design next stage of integration - get username integration working on the main www. and gallery. vhosts and think about how people can attach images to their logs.

I'm cleaning up the gallery, any album without a proper name, title and some items has been removed. I'll be moving some things around and disabling the ability to create more top-level galleries. The gallery has had some time to evolve, and we have a good idea now of what structure is most suitable. The GCA user account is still active while the integration is in progress, but think carefully about how you name things and where they get uploaded. In other words, keep it neat. :)

Cheers,
- Rog

I should have brought this up before, but when I have logged on via the generic GCAuser login, I have managed to add albums and pics, but I have been unable to rename the albums....... I tried a few different times, including changing the name as soon as I generated the albums...

Any Ideas?

I had trouble doing that too. On a top level album there is a edit title link. On the sub-albums there is a "rename album" option in the "album actions" drop box. From memory this didn't actually work when I first tried it and I had to had to do something like "edit album" instead.

Yes, it's a bit tricky. Each album has a name and a title, and when a new one is created, both should be set using the "rename album" and "properties" screens respectively.
