Realtime Chatroom

Post by Bronze » 26 February 05 8:46 am

MSN is good but what are the chances of having a real time chatroom attached to the Australian site for use at a set time of the week or weekend.

What do you think?

Thumbs up or thumbs down.

Somebody might like to play with thisÂ…

Pentochat is open source and free

http://sourceforge.net/projects/pentochat/

it comes from wotmania.com

Chat Room Source Code
wotmania wrote: For any geeks out there that are interested in seeing how the wotmania chat room operates, want to make use of it on their own site, or would like to contribute to it, the wotmania chat room is now a project at SourceForge. You can view the wotmania chat project info and perhaps see how this all operates. Putting the chat room up on SourceForge is also Pento's way of trying to avoid work, should someone else do a lot of work and add new features and such...

Whats wrong with just good old IRC? Rather than reinventing the wheel with strange new chat systems...

This one was set up some time ago but as Team Piggy says there is never anyone in there. Maybe it's just the case that no one knows about it!

A few months ago CraigRat asked if anyone in Tassie would use a chat room, the admin suggested it might be something that could be intergrated into GCA, but so far nothing has come of it - I suspect the boys have been very busy with all the wonderful new features they have added recently.

I don't go there because I don't want to download the java applet.

A real time chat room that doesn't force software onto people would probably work better.

^^^^ All of the above ^^^^

Keep the suggestions coming - I would like to see a time and place operating but if no one uses it or knows about it then it would be a waste of time.

There are a few different MSN, ICQ, Yahoo etc type chat things but everyone has a different one and like me people are reluctant to download and install foreign software (addware) when it's just to chat now and then. Every other time it's just a pain in the proverbial.

Mabey if we or some one can agree on a place and time and advertise it with a link then we can chat realtime while reading the days posts.

IRC is a lot better for a group as everyone can see what has been happening. MSN ICQ etc are more the one on one chats...

Everytime I have looked at the gc.au channel it has been empty :(

I think what he meant was the Java Runtime Environment, which you do need to install for that page to work. Not everyone has Java installed on their machine, although I thought it was pretty widespread these days.
