transfer your cache listing to gca [closed]

Post by ideology » 12 January 05 3:14 pm

if you wish to transfer your cache listings to geocaching australia, just use these four handy access steps!

1. archive your cache listing on the secondary site
2. edit your cache listing on geocaching australia by going to your "my" page on geocaching australia and selecting the "edit" link next to the cache you wish to transfer
3. go to the section which says "Home listing site" and select "Geocaching Australia"
3a. if your cache is listed as archived on this site, change it to "available"
4. press save and you're done!

if you have a lot of caches and don't want to to this manually, let us know which caches you want to transfer and we can do steps 2-4 automatically for you

if you have any problems, please let us know here and we'll walk you through it (there could still be some bugs, etc)

** edited to add step 3a

there are a few ways
- after you press save, you should get a link to the cache page, or
- you could enter it or your name in the search bar at the top and you should see it listed there
- you could select the "my" tab and click on it in the list
- you could click on the relevant state tab and you should see it there (note: these pages are only updated every hour on the hour, so have a look at it after the hour ticks over)

hope this helps

What happens if you skip step 1 - effectively listing the cache details on both sites? Does it put Gremlins in the system? You can already log find on gca, even for caches hosted by gc, can't you?

if you skip step 1, the cache will be listed as a GCA cache until the overnight feed resets it to be a secondary site cache. this is to avoid dual listing. for more details on dual listing, see the dual listing faq

Yes, but again I would strongly suggest you don't do it. GCxxxx caches should be listed and logged only on gc.com, GAxxxx caches can only be listed and logged on gca. The reason you can log a GCxxxx cache on gca is to pick up logs that have not transferred across.

we agree with mind socket. this appears to be a frequently asked question so we have created a logging secondary-listed caches on gca faq for it
