What's new on Geocaching Australia
Re: What's new on Geocaching Australia
Hi C@W, is it possible to have some sort of an indication on the cache page for when the Moveable caches are "In Transit" ? Maybe a different colour flag or faded out map or similar? Also (might be really pushing the friendship ) is it possible on the cachinggames site to have some access to see what distances the cache has travelled for the individual moves?

In transit is impossible to identify. You'll just need to check the cache page. I'll see whether we can get individual distances for moving caches.

Individual Moved Distances for Moving Caches
Individual Moved Distances for Moving Caches
Just in case you weren't aware of the change that I made, when you move a moving cache, in your log, under the cacher name it will now display the distance that the cache was moved.
eg.

Public Routes
Public Routes
Visitors to Geocaching Australia who have not yet signed up for an account can now view routes which have been made public. You can make your current routes, or any future route public by ticking the "Public" options when you edit or create you route.
http://geocaching.com.au/route/
You can also get there by hovering over the Caches tab and then select View by Route.
To avoid confusion over people who are visiting the site public routes that are shown via the routes links will cover all cache types, all containers, difficulty 1 to 5, terrain 1 to 5 and will only show Geocaching Australia caches.
When YOU view your OWN route, even if it is public, the attributes set BY you FOR you will still be used.
Non-member viewers can also see the caches along the route on a Google Map, as a list or they can download a GPX file or ZIPped GPX file for those routes.
If you choose to make your route public, please try to use a meaningful name.
i.e. not "my happy holiday", but something like START location to END location VIA location ON road / freeway / highway /etc.
e.g. Melbourne to Ballarat via Ballarat Road (Western Hghway).
e.g. Launceston - St Helens - Hobart
Searching will look for terms in the name of the route, so be helpful and meaningful where you can.
If you have a route that you think could benefit visitors to the site, please consider making it public.

My Route
My Route
A small enhancement has been made to your My Route capability. Now when you visit My Route you will have an additional search option at the bottom of the page.
http://geocaching.com.au/my/route/
http://geocaching.com.au/my/route/search/
A search will look in ALL route names to see if there is a match.
If there is a match on the name you are searching for AND the route is public you will be able to see the route, the description and be able to map it, download GPX files, etc, etc.
If the route is NOT public you will only be able to view the route, not the description and you will not be able to use the route to download GPX or map the caches along the route.
You can, however COPY the route to your own My Routes folder (by selecting the COPY option). This will copy the route and allow you to customise the attributes as far as cache types, containers, difficulty, terrain, radius, etc, etc, etc.
i.e. Why do the hard work when someone else may have already done it for you. You may be able to spot a route that someone else has made, copy it for your use and then modify your copy.

Re: What's new on Geocaching Australia
I received a pleasant surprise with the email offering me the pathtag yesterday. While I haven't really got into pathtags it will be discoverable along with my GCNSW 2009 coin at events.

Hi, I would just like to say thank you to GCA for the very nice pathtag that I received in the mail today. I'm proud of those 100 finds and really appreciate it. It's awesome that you provide physical rewards for achievements. Thanks, and keep up the great site!!
