gpx downloads [closed]

Post by Team Red Roo » 07 January 05 10:49 am

Is it possible at the moment (or in the near future) to get a GPX (or any other ) download from this site? :) , rather than relying on gpx downloads from the secondary site.

yes, it is possible and is currently in alpha testing

the problem is that the format is not compatible with any of the current gpx software. the reason for this is that the gpx files created by groundspeak use a groundspeak proprietary namespace. we have therefore proposed an open version to some of the other listing sites. this will mean that software developers only need to support two gpx formats: the groundspeak one and the open one, so the chances of getting it supported will be higher.

we plan to only export geocaching australia caches as we think it's a bit rude to export groundspeak caches as gpx when groundspeak is charging for the service - it's basically denying them revenue

Thanks for the reply. I agree that it would cost them revenue, and have no problem with your 'rule'. I also understand the problems in having a variety of formats in gpx files, so will be very interested when the format is decided on and the download becomes available for beta testing. <p>Wayne
