Have you ICEM?

Have you ICEM?

What is ICEM I hear you ask? Well, lucky for you, here at Geocaching Australia we know. That would be because ICEM stands for I’ve Cached Everywhere Man and is a series of Geocaching Australia caches that started to be released in late 2011.

The idea was, and still is, to place at least one Geocaching Australia physical cache in every location mentioned and made famous by Lucky Star in the song "I've been everywhere" in 1962, lyrics by Geoff Mack. It would appear though, that "I haven't exactly been everywhere" and so verses 5, 6 and 7 have been added by Geocaching Australia cachers, Hookline and Trigg-A-Nomics to cover Western Australia, South Australia, Northern Territory and Tasmania. The community's thanks go to those geocachers for helping to cover most of the populated (and less populated) parts of Australia.

To see the full version and locations, visit this link:
https://wiki.geocaching.com.au/wiki/I%2 ... where,_man

Since 2011 we’ve had caches published representing approx 76 of the 163 locations mentioned in the lyrics. Unfortunately, over time we’ve had approx 23 of these caches archived, leaving just 58 still active.

Our goal now is to give this series a boost and try to increase those 58 caches, and give the country a few more cache hides. Can you help?

We need caches published in these locations:

Tullamore, Seymour, Mooloolaba, Nambour, Maroochydore, Kilmore, Murwillumbah, Birdsville, Emmaville, Wallaville, Cunnamulla, Condamine, Strathpine, Proserpine, Ulladulla, Gin Gin, Muckadilla, Wallumbilla, Boggabilla, Kumbarilla.

Moree, Taree, Jerilderie, Bambaroo, Toowoomba, Woolloomooloo, Dalveen, Jindabyne, Lithgow, Casino, Brigalow, Narromine, Wyong, Tuggerawong, Morella, Augathella, Brindabella.

Geelong, Mullumbimby, Molong, Grong Grong, Yarra Yarra, Boroondara, Wallangarra, Turramurra, Boggabri, Gundagai, Narrabri, Tibooburra, Gulgong, Adelong, Billabong, Cabramatta, Coolangatta.

Ettalong, Ballarat, Canberra, Milperra, Unanderra, Captain's Flat, Cloncurry, Kurri Kurri, Girraween, Terrigal, Stockinbingal, Collaroy, Narrabeen, Dorrigo, Indooroopilly, Kirribilli, Yeerongpilly, Wollondilly.

Corrigin, Carnarvon, Kalbarri, Geraldton, Burrup, Manjimup, Munglinup, Meekatharra, Peedamulla, Albany, Jindalee, Yalgoo, Mingenew, Ningaloo.

Swansea, Berriedale, Bicheno, Rosebery, Cockle Creek, Winnaleah, Wayatinah.

Tarlee, Marree, Waikerie, Yongala, Terowie, Nangwarry, Barmera, Woomera, Virginia, Wudinna, Alice Springs, Spalding, Tennant Creek, Oodnadatta, Buckleboo, Orroroo!

The caches hidden should be within the general area of the location, anywhere within the Post Code area or within 50klm of the CBD is a good guide.

To assist cachers find all ICEM caches via a 'my query', the format of the name title should be:

Place name – ICEM e.g. Lismore – ICEM. or ICEM – Place name e.g. ICEM – Lismore

As well, please remember to add ICEM to the Public Tags on your geocache.

Imagine if we covered 99% of the places mentioned in the song. Would certainly give us all a few more caches to look for when travelling around....and maybe we could say…. I’ve Cached Everywhere Man.

Rosebery Tasmania has an active ICEM cache. Probably turned up as not there because of the miss spelling of Rosebery in the lyrics. I think it appears as Rosebury instead of Rosebery.

Thanks for the heads up 2y'stassies. Rosebery has been added to the list of locations with an ICEM cache. We missed it originally as it didn't have the ICEM public tag. That's all good now.....so it's one off the list. By our count that leaves only 104 locations to go. :D #-o

Our spelling will be corrected shortly.....thanks again.

Looking at the Full Version and Locations link in our area shows Bundarra (NSW) as an ICEM, which I reckon Bundarra would be thrilled about, but it doesn't appear in the song. Emmaville (NSW) is in the song but doesn't show. This is a great series of caches and we're hoping to add to it at the next opportunity.

If you have the talent, then maybe suggest a new verse that incorporates some of the regional areas you would like to place a cache in. If the style and the meter fits the existent song, then you could be responsible for expanding the series even further.

Had a look at the lyrics and yep, Bundarra doesn't actually get a mention. If it's not in the official lyrics maybe we don't need a cache there....just for the song. However, a look at the map shows the only cache within cooee of Bundarra is another one by you.....just south of the school. Maybe a separate GCA cache would still be a good thing. :D

Emmaville is in the lyrics and on our list, so we certainly need one there. The only other GCA cache near Emmaville is TP4853, last found by you in 2013. So yep, another GCA cache in the area would be great.

Thanks for you interest in the project geono. Hopefully Emmaville will be one more we can cross off the list one day soon.

I'll do my two bits out my way but happy for 'passing through' peeps to beat me to it. I have to many containers with no mojo to put them out.

What?! No Tomorrow just posted on the forum! I'm bored and miss this community so just thought I'd take a peep at what's happening.

Just out of curiosity and to gauge interest,

if each person hiding an ICEM in the next 9 months was to have someone record it on their smart phone or camera, pretending that they FOUND it, I could make a sweet music video for next year's GIFF featuring mostly GCA caches without them realising :-$ . Mostly because we'd need footage of other caches found where ICEMs are not yet placed.

Must correct the lack of Australian videos in the GIFF finalists next year. THIS idea is easy. It would be an Australia-wide community effort to collect the footage and then I'd just need to piece it together with the truck part acted. I can arrange that. Plenty of long flat dusty sandy roads out here. And I know just the trucky for the job. It would be entered as the work of all involved.

One week (and one day) into the re-launch of the ICEM series and we’ve seen some great progress with new caches in Murwillumbah, Mullumbimby, Lismore, Armidale and Collaroy (NSW), Berriedale (TAS), Canberra (ACT), Burrup (WA) and Coolangatta (QLD). We’ve also had a previous archived cache in Coolangatta (NSW) re-instated.

Thanks to all those cachers who have managed to publish these new caches.

Added to those, we’ve had mentioned that Ulladulla, Jindabyne, Gulgong, Emmaville, Brindabella (NSW), Donnybrook, Bundalong (VIC), Manjimup, Geraldton, Albany (WA) and Daisy Hill (QLD) are all locations that our cachers around the country may be able to publish a new ICEM cache in. If that happens over the next few weeks/months we are really on our way towards…being able to cache everywhere, man.

Thanks to everyone for the interaction with the re-launch…. hopefully we can continue the interest into the Christmas Holiday period and see a few more caches published.

Updates will certainly continue as new caches are published. Let’s keep them coming.

If you’d like to see a complete list of available ICEM caches, this is a link to the public query: ICEM - All Available in Australia. Check it out.

Obviously it can't be anything to do with Geocaching Australia, however as a private project anything is possible....

I understand. I think if GCA has a great community and a great series, it wouldn't hurt to work with that would it? I mean, who, besides people reading this would know the caches in the video were not all of the GC variety. However, I would need to have GCA permission to use the lyrics...... If that is a yes, would I have to credit each author or Geocaching Australia?

As a private project, may I use the forum (new topic) to discuss and build this with others?
