I remember I once said something like "oh you oldies" or "veterans" or something like that to another QLD geocacher and it didnÂ’t go down well at all

The good thing with being 20 is you get away with saying things like that :P

In the further hi-jacking of this thread, i now face this situation at work, and I use to laugh at my father when it started appearing for him.....

you know you are old when.......

you are now working with people who weren't even born till AFTER you started in your job...... I have been in my job for nearly 23 years and I have 20yr olds working for me..... :?

phpBB allows "Enable gallery avatars Yes or No" in the admin panel, so it can be turned off on a global scale.

homepage and state pages:
eek it is running slowly!
the reason is that each page display was querying the database
this was fine while we didn't have many logs and it was just a few fun stats
now there are over 60,000 logs in the system
so we've added page caching for the home page and the state pages
they are recomputed every hour on the hour
please let us know if you see any problems

forum:
we are aware of the delay when editing forum posts
we have no idea what the forum software is doing (surely it's not that hard to simply edit a post!) we'll take a look to see what's going on one day

avatars:
avatars can be turned off on a global scale, but most people seem to like them so they are on
if anyone doesn't want to see avatars (eg on a slow connection), let us know and we can configure the board to hide them for you
if you still want to see them but find the animations distracting, try using privoxy which de-animates images for you

Sorry my fault, I didn't mean global as in "turn them off for everyone", I know some people enjoy seeing them. What I meant was give everyone the option to turn them off like you did for me, in the profile prefs for example.

Since I am the only one with a moving avatar I have to askÂ… Is my avatar distracting? :) :)

I can change it if its a problem for a few of you . :) :)

sniper, we didn't know your avatar was animated and our comment was not related to you. we were basing it on memory when we were testing the website a couple of months ago with another browser and we were surprised to see a various animated avatars. they may have gone now

On another note, the main page seems a hell of a lot faster to load the stats :D but editing a post seems to be taking even longer now :( .

I will test it out with a stop watch to see if the amount of time it takes is always the same.
....and "no" CraigRat, no downloaders in the background

What are the server machines stats anyway? (you donÂ’t have to answer if you feel its a security risk 8))

Don't worry Sniper, your avatar is not the only moving avatar on this site :!:

... just ask Bear_Left or SNIFTER for starters.
