Re: Bingo - The moving cache race for 2012/2013
I won't be heading out at midnight as I have to work Saturday morning down at Camden. Still that's not a particularly GCA moveable popular area so if someone like Zal has been down that way there is a chance of a few. After that I have to head to Peakhurst, so will be able to check a few down that way.
That said, any early found logs would be appreciated as I will download the query as I finish the job!

I will be out and about at Midnight for a few hours I hope
I have caches down by the Georges River, Bicentennial, Gosford and in the Hills District... so something for everyone... so some best not done in dark!

Correction, I now can log in the field - provided something doesn't go wrong with activating the prepaid SIM I just bought. I'm curious to see if having internet access for Cache-racer updates, etc helps in the field enough to justify the expense. The downside is it's an iPad SIM so have a lump of a tablet to lug around - and keep safe as its work-owned...quiet1_au wrote:For that reason its important to log finds ASAP - if not in the field (I can't) then as soon as you get to the 'net so that others following in your footsteps don't have to search fruitlessly or waste a trip. Also why a clear hint is important so that its obvious you're looking in the exactly the right spot but must have been too late...
Great to see so many previously "unlisted" caches have entered the game and there are now two or more for every number - I wonder if it's get to 400 caches before tomorrow? (26 to go!)

You can still use a smartphone/laptop/tablet to do the log in the field.tronador wrote:Sorry but I don't log in the field either. I cache with a real Gps not a phone .

Yeah I usually use GPS and Phone. Phone is perfect for seeing what is around me when I have a spare 20mins, where ever I may be, and for logging. If I am really being serious, I will take my laptop with the wireless net!

I read in here that you had entrants down south so got all excited knowing that you had been to Merimbula. Alas Georges River must be south.Zalgariath wrote:

I tried using my phone in the field but it was a drag mucking around for 5 mins after the find, doing the logging and it was slowing everything down, and I made lots of typos.tronador wrote:Sorry but I don't log in the field either. I cache with a real Gps not a phone .
I now use the Oregon Field notes to capture the basic details, with key words in the comments to trigger my memory when I log later by importing the field notes into GSAK.
I find this to be the optimal method for me.
Got my 5 caches hidden this morning between South Melbourne and Hampton.

Apologies Tuena, I meant South of Sydney... generally very slow GCA'ing down there. I got an FTF which was a driveby and a week old today! I wasnt organised enough one the Merimbula tripTuena wrote: I read in here that you had entrants down south so got all excited knowing that you had been to Merimbula. Nope, not on a pl an. Data is too expensive I wont .use it and have it disabled. Dont own a tablet or carry a laptop. Just me and my GPS. That's why I don't do munzees.Requires data to run the app.s_mc500 wrote:You can still use a smartphone/laptop/tablet to do the log in the field.tronador wrote:Sorry but I don't log in the field either.
