Re: Moving Cache Race 2011 / 2012 - Theme Poll
Last year there were some 236 gnomes in the race. I am expecting (hoping) there may be that many again, maybe more.

Is it worth considering charging a small entry fee per frog. We would like one pathtag please for each of our entries if possible, and am happy to donate $50 towards specifically buying tags.
We are planning to enter 4-5, atleast one per team member. Maybe a mechanism needs to be in place to encourage thoughtful and unique entries that can continuing moving about the country creating interest long after the race finishes just like gnomes. Is it possible mass saturation entries of the same frog(s) could detract from the race and long term interest in caching for frogs.
Really looking forward to this years race.

I recon you will get more than 500 entries and potentially see the size of the race grow exponentially year on year.

I will Second the idea of an entry fee per frog if you want a tag per frog entry.MakkyBrown wrote:Is it worth considering charging a small entry fee per frog. We would like one pathtag please for each of our entries if possible, and am happy to donate $50 towards specifically buying tags.

My thought are like the price of the tag + postage(or Stamped Self addressed envolope) at least to cover the costs.
So that C@W(GCA) is not wearing all the costs.
Just My 2c worth less Tax & GST

Well I have already got 4 frogs ready to race and looking for another but with specific requirements. Don't think we will need 5 pathtags but 2 would be nice.
Happy to meet any costs for them! Soooo looking forward to the race, and the lunacy of racing straight out of the house day/ night hoping to find the little critters before the next cacher.

For the moment, on the matter of pathtags, let's put them aside. The goal of Leap Frog are the caches, the finding, the moving, the entertainment of pictures and video, the funm the camaraderie, the competition. Pathtags are just a nice bonus.
Thank you to everyone who has offered financial support for the procurement of the pathtags. I'll look at options to minimise the cost, while still rewarding the participants. I don't want to charge anything for the reward. If we charge, it's not a reward.

At least it's not so likely that the frogs this year will be a huge and heavy as some of the gnomes last year! Frogs are nice, small, neat little packages.
...........
Aren't they?
PS bubbles_baby, we don't want too many melt-in-your-hand entries either!!!

Caught at work's noble comments about the path tags payment aside, maybe people who want to can donate through the geocaching shop..... $5 donation is available - and you can do multiples.

Hang off on the donations for the moment.
I have had a few people suggest that maybe a "get one / buy some" offer may work.
e.g. Every cacher who hides a Leap Frog gets a tag and then, somehow, we make an offer through the shop where you can buy some more.
Still working the logistics of that idea.

So I think we should have some common word for these frogs so they're easier to find
What about CR11 - Cache Race 2011
Or just FROG11 or even F11?

I'm going to suggest you add the word leapfrog to the public tags of your cache. Then you can make a query which looks for leapfrog caches
The Leap Frog wiki page will give you information about how to do that.

My query last year was "moveable" and "hidden date 1/12/2010" That got all the gnomes but the public tag idea is better

Yeah, then you don't have to worry about other moveable caches hidden on the same day.blossom* wrote:My query last year was "moveable" and "hidden date 1/12/2010" That got all the gnomes but the public tag idea is better
