The Moving Cache Race for 2011/2012

Post by caughtatwork » 04 August 11 9:47 am

OK boys and girls and alien creatures with tentacles and other weird appendages, it's time to start thinking about the new cache race for 2011/2012.

I'm in Hawaii for most of January 2012 (not that that should bother you or the race, I'm just bragging :-)) returning on the 28th or 29th, so the game will be run almost automonously as it did last year.

Prizes / Rewards will be determined once we work out how many entries we have. GCA will NOT be funding any rewards / prizes so the panic kittens who think I'm spending all their money on hookers and blackjack can rest assured.

The game will run December 2011 / January 2012 with the game closing down at 23:59:59 on 31-Jan-2012 (AEDT).

All cache sizes will be permitted from nano through to large. The cache size will be whatever the hell you want it to be. i.e. If you have a 35mm film cannister inside a dumpster, you can call it large or micro. Your choice.

There is no limit to the number of times other cachers can find / move the cache provided there are at least two other finds / moves in between

Caches for the competition must be published on 1 December 2011 Australian Eastern Daylight Time (GCA Time). I'll give instructions on how you can do this if you don't know in the rules at www.cachinggames.com

The game administrators decision is final.

You can not find and move your own cache during the game period

Caches must be found and hidden by the same cacher (i.e. no mailing the cache to another cacher to hide)

If a cacher moves your cache overseas and it remains unfound overseas for 1 week or more, the same cache mover may move your cache (within the country or to another country) without breaking the "2 moves" rule

There is no limit to the distance other cachers can move the cache

Other cachers in the game may find / move your cache, but they must move it on within 2 days

They're pretty much the same as the last game with a small tweak on the international movements.

Good, now that you've skipped over that crud, what is the theme? I have had the following suggestions:

Ge-Gnome 2: Revenge of the Gnerds
Piggy banks (any shape)
Other garden ornaments (gnomes included)
Pot plants (preferably plastic so they don't up and die in the middle of the game)
Lego (individual pieces, collections, fully assembled kits)
Pots and Pans (kitchen themed)
Rocket in your Pocket (starship / outer space themed)
Zombies / Graveyards (must be hidden in a graveyard and must be "fright" themed)
Glow in the Dark (solar lights, GitD painted, LED light with battery)

What other ideas do you have? Let's keep the general etiquette of geocaching in mind, let's keep the cost down, let's try and make it as much fun as the gnomes were.

Over to you for discussion on rules, themes, rewards, prizes, etc, etc.

What about "Pet Toys" \:D/ , you know, those rubber squeeky things or the rubber bone or feeding conch. They are as cheap as chips and damn near impossible to destroy and you can easily drill them to attach a log etc. You could get your own pet to mentor the moveable cache and request photos of the cache with other pets etc.

OK I will stop thinking now as I think I am starting to get pet obsessed

Looking forward to other other suggestions.

I like the gnomes again, reactivate existing ones and get some new ones into the mix :gnome

I like the rocket idea. Plenty of options for making your own or just purchasing one or two. The gnomes live on & were/are great fun but I'd prefer a new theme each year.

It's hard to top gnomes but I can see the need for something different.
Last time we had this discussion I suggested shoes as you always see them lying around. Not so sure about it now.
If you go to a garden centre there are so many different garden 'creatures' to choose from apart from gnomes. You could come up with a theme along those lines - like frogs, tortoises or snails (thinks: we had a snail last time who thought he was a gnome).

Should they have munzees on them this time? (I haven't got a phone to read them but can read other barcodes)

Each finder to add another key to the ring.
The Key ring with the most Keys at the end recieves a prize.

Or Spoons we all know the ones bought at gift shops.

Since it is a movable race, what about Vehicles?

Broad enough to leave a lot of options!

I like the idea of a theme and why not a theme on the theme. Even though all objects can be moved there are a lot of different type of actual items that can move on the market so I go for objects that represent objects that in the real world move. Can be cars trucks cows horses etc.

Nice list, and they all would be fun! I have a slight leaning towards "Zombies/Graveyards"!

Why? You allergic to December / January?

We hold it at that time as most kids are off school, most people have a few days holidays in that period, the weather is nice (when it's not stinking hot), there is lots of light in the evenings when it gets cooler for after hours raids, etc.
