What about a theme that requires/makes possible a contribution form the finder.
An example might be an unpainted gnome that gets some shoes from one finder and a garden tool from the next...
A bike frame that gets a wheel... seat...
A sketch book...
thumb drive...
Inclusion - contribution not just snatch and grab.

the change/add to the cache idea would be fun
but I would say not thumb drives - I would be hesitant to put anything in my computer that I wasn't positive of the source

I like lego too. Not only do you have to move it, but you have to rebuild it into something else and perhaps add a brick or two each time.

There is/was a TB I once had like this, you were asked to change the item on the TB but in line with the previous item. For example it was attached to a spoon when I found it so I shrunk a noodle packet (you eat noodles with a spoon...) and sent it on it's way.
There was a requirement to upload a photo of what you changed it to so the next finder knew what it looked like. Pretty cool idea

Lego is expensive to buy. It comes in kits. Not all of us have lego lying around.

Not all of us had gnomes lying around either. You can get something for as little as $5.

What about mushrooms toadstools and fairies. This would sort of extend the gnome theme and kids tend to love these things. OR perhaps pirates or treasure chests. Witches on broomsticks.. To pick up on Harry Potter theme! I do think zombies may be a little scarey for some of our younger cachers.

I am voting on the gnomes and LEGO because I have them both and I like the idea of them too. I didn't know about it last year, so I am very excited about this year.

I don't know how the GeGnome Project can be surpassed, so I would go for Gnome Redux although how the Gnomes from 2010/11 would be treated is a question mark.
Failing that I would like to see animals, there are so many cheap ornaments out there that could be used it would allow everybody to get into the act. The $2 shops are full of them so getting a variety of entries should be easy.
In any case no matter what the outcome I will most certainly put a few caches out there!

I would prefer the animals theme as there are lots available cheaply.
Old shoes are easy to find and modify.
I think Lego could loose to many pieces along the way, and I hate nano's.
Looking at prices the other day while shopping i think it could get expensive and what happened to the basic blocks, all the kits seem to be specific for one item only. No more buckets of multi coloured blocks.

They exist, but aren't as common as the kits. Myer has a much better toy section that KMart or Target. That is where you find them.

I like the idea of animals too, mainly because i've got a ceramic ...owl? or something for a secret santa gift last year.
And not to mention, i was in one of those $2 shops, and they have ALOT of them.
