I have just paid the invoice for the GCA server hosting for the next 12 months for a total of $1,560.00

Geocaching Tasmania Inc have been holding our donated server funds that we raised a couple of years ago.

The GCA server fund being held by GTi has a balance of $3,457.20. Paying this $1,560.00 today leaves $1,897.20 which is enough for next year as well. This is above what the GCA shop is holding.

I have asked the treasurer of the GTi to transfer the remaining $1,897.20 to the same account I use to hold the GCA shop funds. That way we can hold all of the GCA funds in one place and not have to annoy GTi next year.

I'm placing this out in then open to ensure complete transparency in what is happening to the previous years donations.

Many thanks for keeping it open to what is happening for all of us. I am glad we have enough to keep going for the next couple of years, plus whatever the shop brings in. Hopefully the shop can build to a stage it keeps the funding going, though if more donations are needed I am sure enough of us will do so.

And more thanks for putting the time into running the shop to keep helping the funds, on top of coding and whatever you need time to do personally.

All up, we have enough for at least a 3 or 4 of years of hosting, but over time we will also probably need additional / new infrastrcuture which is what we're also saving for. Shop sales continue and in November a new report will show how much we have at that point.

Small donations through the shop are welcomed, but we would also like you to buy the good to help spread the GCA word. I doubt we will need another major donation drive as we're hoping to have a funding model that is self sustaining.

I am sure that we are all only too happy to make purchases from the store to show our support for GCA, specially when you keep bringing out such lovely shinnies!

Go GCA!!! Good to know we can count on caching for the next few years!

A simple suggestion for everyone to consider, and something I have decided to do every year: When it comes time to renew my GC membership, I pay my $30, and at the same time, I donate $30 to GCA via a donation in the shop.

I reckon I get better value from my GCA $30 donation, than the GC $30 membership fee!

Today the remaining donations from a few years ago were transferred to me. I have paid $1,560 off my VISA which is where the renewal for the server hit. That leaves $1,897.20 from the donations which will now be held together with the shop funds.
