I have set up my signature in the User Control Panel but when I write a post, I still have to add it manually. Is there a switch somewhere that has to be turned on to say 'Use my signature'?

We are not keen to have signatures or signature banners on posts, hence we don't have it as an option.
It just adds unneeded 'noise' to the conversations.
IMO you don't NEED to have your name at the end of posts, it's not email and it's obvious who you are from the avatar!

And it's also obvious by the first line that says "by blossom*" in my case
