Most Recommended Caches

Post by calumphing_four » 20 September 10 1:45 pm

Is it possible to limit the number of caches on this list, and then add a list for (say) most recommended this year (and/or month) or newly recommended?
Whenever I view the state page the list is always the same and I have been starting to think lately that it's nice for those cache owners, but its not helping me spot new caches that others are recommending.
Feel free to disagree with me though, and in the end I know its up to the Faeries to best lay out the page.
Cheers 8)

The leaderboard is a leaderboard, so the ones with most recommendations make the leaderboard.

However, we can create a new list based on some other criteria.
A recommended board showing the most recommended caches this month and year?
The latest recommended caches?
Other things?

More than happy to make up a recommended board by state / country so all you need to do is tell me what needs to go on the recommended board.

A yearly board would be neat, although in SA a cache would probably only need 3 to be top.
A monthly board may not be useful (at least in SA), but the last 10/15 (or 20+ - depending on what fits) caches to be recommended would be neat.

A changing board may even get a few more recommending caches. I tend to just do it on caches by a new hider or old ones that don't seem to get many visitors (but only if I think it is a nice cache), but may do it more if I can see it affecting a list somewhere.

How about recommended by recommended date?

Bwuh?
It's a rare cache that gets recommended by two people on the same day.
Please explain.

We could have current year and current month (like the leaderboard).
We can also have the last "n" caches recommended.

I was thinking a list that you can go to that lists the recomended caches by the date of the recommended log.

Similar to the GC page that lists new caches by state they are sorted by hidden date, this would allow people to see caches that have a new *Recommended* tag on them and have a look. It sounds like this is what you were thinking anyway.

Oh, I see.
That should be something we can do.
I might look at an AJAX widget (yes CR, I know), to do that.

Okey dokey.

It's up and running as part of the dashboard.
The lists are limited to 10 things which is generally not a problem for a state as recommendations don't come in that often.
If you want / need more, let me know.

Looks great and thanks. 8)
Hopefully it may get a few more doing recommendations, and judging by the lists I haven't done any for a while

Hooray for me! Looks like I've been the chief recommender this year.

Now I just need to find more caches so I can increase my recommendations. I have about 3 caches on my "Favourites" list that I haven't been able to recommend because of the 1:10 rule.

And now I'm not.

Great to see others using this feature. Looks like I'll have to dust off the GCA Recommended GSAK macro and get hunting!

After some time to get used to the new layout, I have decided I dont like it. The dashboard is now very cluttered and takes a lot of scrolling (for a dashboard page) to see the whole page.

The dashboard now lists:
GCA Events
New GCA caches
Top GCA caches/cachers for the current month and year
Recommendations for GCA caches
Events from all sources
New caches (all)
Top caches/cachers (all) for the current month and year
Recommendations for all caches
Cache of the Year (current)
Cache of the Year (previous)

I dont know if there is a more concise way to display the data (I cant think of one), if not I'd like to see less info on the dashboard.

Perhaps some of the info could be pushed off to another page...maybe put the recommendations info on its own page, or maybe split the dashboard into a GCA dashboard and an 'all sources' dashboard?

Maybe I'm the minority here...happy to hear what others think about this.

Cheers
Pete

What about the ability to expand or collapse the bits you do/dont want to look at?
I've been toying with adding that, would that suffice?

Does that have the ability to leave more than one bit expanded? Ideally, being able to show/hide certain areas and leave them that way for next visit would be fantastic.
