Request for an small 'improvement'
Request for an small 'improvement'
I always come to the GCA forum via a bookmark on my toolbar. So the forum is always my first port of call.
There is often discussion I read on the forum about a feature/graph/whatever that I want to go and look at on the main site while keeping the forum thread open. When I go to the main site I always just click on the Geocaching Australia logo at the top of the forum page. This takes me to the main site.
What I am asking as an 'improvement' is that when you click on the Geocaching Australia logo at the top of the page that the main site opens in a new window/tab please.
Currently I have to remember to right click the logo and select 'open in new tab/window' so that I don't lose the forum page I am on.
Is this small 'improvement' possible please?

If you have a scroll wheel mouse try clicking the scroll. Middle button opens a link in a new tab in firefox and other browsers may have copied this feature.

...or you could just hold down the Ctrl button (for a new tab) or Shift (for a new window) whilst clicking the link.

or right click, and then open in a new tab or window.
Please don't implement the request. I hit the GCA logo all the time. I don't want lots of new tabs.
Sorry Mundoo.

Re: Request for an small 'improvement'
If you right click on the link, you should get an option to open in new tab. At least you do in Google Chrome.
The options are :-
Open Link in new tab
Open Link in new window
Open link in incognito window <- not sure what that does, I'll have to try it
Save link as ...
Copy link address
Save image as ...
Copy image URL
Copy image
Open image in new tab
Inspect element
Quite a selection isn't it.

It seems opening a window in incognito mode stops all history recording and all cookies are deleted after the session.
I'll leave it up to your imagine why you want to do that

Mundoo, we COULD do what you ask, but each browser has it's own quirks which makes it hard for us to implement.
Best thing to do is learn the open in a new tab shortcut for your browser (that's the way I do it)
I use Google Chrome and just click on the link with my middle button (the scroll whell on most mice) and it opens in a new tab.
Re: Request for an small 'improvement'
As I said I already open with the right mouse click and select a new tab.Currently I have to remember to right click the logo and select 'open in new tab/window' so that I don't lose the forum page I am on.
I was hoping to cut out one step and remembering that this site is one of those where I have to remember to right click/select option and just be able to click on the pic and the main site would open in another tab/window. Like you can do with pics or website links elsewhere.
As an example the html code that does what I was querying is target="_blank" which then opens the link in a new tab/window. I am not asking for html, just giving the bit of code that I am aware of that does what I was seeking.
No where have I said that I am after removing my history or cookies or looking for a porn mode.
Thanks for the reasons for not doing what is common on other web-sites. No worries. I will just have to keep remembering that this site is one I have to right-mouse click with if I want the forum section I am in to also stay on my screen for reference.
Thanks for considering my request.

Re: Request for an small 'improvement'
A small improvement has been made.
You will now notice at the top of the screen there is a wide logo containing the words Geocaching Australia and a narrow GCA standard 4 square logo.
The wide logo performs as standard.
The narrow logo will now open the GCA home page in a new tab / window.
You just have to remember to click the right bit
Sorry for the delay, I was out caching

Re: Request for an small 'improvement'
While we're on this topic, my MOST annoying thing is that when I'm in the wiki, there is no quick spot to click to take me to the GCA main page. Or at least, if there is, I don't know where. I click on the logo but it only takes me to the wiki main page.
Is there any possibility that the wiki can link to the GCA main page somewhere?

Re: Request for an small 'improvement'
That might be a lot harder. We have no hacks in the wiki code, so it's pristine. I'm not sure what we need to do. I'll look, but no promises.

Good one, have just been browsing on the macbook, sing the thing they call a touchpad on them, and I still haven't worked out it's shortcuts yet. made one thing a tad easier for me.
