I think the text size should drop 3 points and the colour change to the same as the page background if the cache is recommended by its owner.

such as....

I don't know why someone would recommend their own cache, surely one recommends their cache implicitly by placing it.

In the absence of a real consensus or system based enforcement of whether this is above board or not, people will draw their own conclusions. I'd be inclined to interpret a self-recommendation without any other recommendations as a negative.

With that said, I think we might have covered this topic before.

thanks for your feedback. we've implemented the following:

- recommendation limit is now 1/10 of a person's finds
- people can't recommend their own caches

these actions generate an error message and a link to the recommended caches page on the wiki. can someone please flesh out the wiki with the reasoning behind this? (just try to recommend your own cache and you'll see the link)

we've also tidied up the following:
- removed the 20 self-recommendations from the system
- left the recommendations of people who have recommended more than 1/10 of their finds because it's impossible to know which recommendations to remove. but they won't be able to recommend any more until they find a few more caches

please let us know how it goes

Ok I have 433 according to the tally on my page. So according to the calculations I get 43 Recommends?.. how ever when I go to recommend some more caches (I only have 5 there at the moment)... I get the "Sorry, you can't recommend any caches until you have more finds."

sorry, we left a bit of debugging code in
we were resetting the find count to zero to make sure the error message worked
please give it a go again

Along a similar train of bug thoughts ... I keep getting the same error messages when trying to watch a cache as if I'm trying to recommend it.<p>
Sorry, you can't recommend any caches until you have more finds. (Help)

I just had a look at one of them and the recommendation has gone (leaving it with none) but the cache title is still coloured Gold. Tried refreshing the page but that didn't change it.

oops sorry the highlighting only gets recalculated when a recommendation is added or removed
we've manually updated the nine caches which were solely recommended by their owners

Absoloutely fantastic - I was only discussing this last night with AGSMKY (who came for a Barbie and a swim).

Now I can go and recommend a heap of caches that I hadn't because someone else already had. On ya Knees & Astro la Vista will have more recommendations shortly!

One other thing we discussed and it made a lot of sense to us, is that it would be great to have a small log, or a drop down box, or icon, which says why I am recommending this cache. Was it a spectactular view? Was it brain work? Clever container? Unless there is a quick link to the recommenders log, it might be hard to locate where they made their comment and especially if it was a mystery, they may not have said much in the log.

Just thoughts maybe for near the bottom of the list somewhere.

Thanks and thanks again.
