Forum Moderators
Just a thought, but these forums were set up quite a while ago. When you click on a forum you can see the moderators for that forum. Some show as logging on very recently, some not for a few months, and some don't have a last logged in date at all.
While I think things are working well with the site administrators looking after things, are the original moderators still relevant? Should the community or admins revisit this and see who is perhaps best to look after the original forums?
I am not proposing that the Senators for each state become the moderators for the state forums, and it's not necessarily a job I would want either. But if we need moderators for the forums (and in general I don't think we do) are the origiinal people still relevant as some seem to never post?

Just noticed a "The Team" link!
http://forum.geocaching.com.au/memberli ... de=leaders
Might be a couple of names there that maybe are no longer relevant.

Re: Forum Moderators
There are some people who are no longer active cachers who are moderators as they were founding members of GCA and it's predecessors.
Some of the mods in there probably need revising though.

Re: Forum Moderators
I think it is necessary to have a moderator for those rare times when a topic needs to be locked or whatever. So it's probably time to revise the list and replace those who are no longer active. Just as long as it's clear who the moderator is for each forum, and that the person is logging on fairly frequently.

Re: Forum Moderators
Yet people tell me they wont come in to these forums because of the flame wars etc. They must not visit a lot of forums elsewhere on the net!!Damo. wrote:Very true!Agent Basil wrote:This forum needs the least moderation of a forum I have ever seen

I haven't seen a *good* flamewar here in years, I miss some of the old guys
Re: Forum Moderators
Why is it that "thin-skinned" people seem to be the ones whose minds are closed to others opinions!
Yeah.. been a while since anyone cracked it.....
You want to see a flame war? Go to the groundspeak forum and start a thread saying you think people shouldn't carry guns while caching!

I probably haven't been here long enough to see a good flamewar here, though a recent poster in General Chit-Chat has been tempting meCraigRat wrote:I haven't seen a *good* flamewar here in years, I miss some of the old guys
I used to be on a pre-internet group (Fidonet) where we had one group specifically set up for that sort of thing. One message would be a perfectly reasonable discussion about something, the next you would be flaming the same person to death. All in fun though. And I have learned that certain forums are for flamewars and others aren't. It can be good fun though, and has trained me to rarely lose an email argument with someone

I follow a couple of hiking forums in the US and the flame wars that go on over guns is just beyond belief. Trust me this place is very civil compared to other forums.Damo. wrote:You want to see a flame war? Re: Forum Moderators
From what I have read over at Groundspeak it is hard to start any thread without having a flame war erupt!Damo. wrote:You want to see a flame war? Go to the groundspeak forum and start a thread saying you think people shouldn't carry guns while caching!
I totally agree that these forums are the most civil forums that I have visited online!

That's what happens when you say it's not needed. It's like cops never say
"Gee it's quiet tonight".
