Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
Thank you, I was a little worried being my 1st GCA cache.
Can't wait til it comes online!
I think this is the only GCA cache West of the Adelaide hills close to the city!

Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
I have 2 caches in the draft stage and was wondering if the GAxxxx number is the waypoint I write on the actual cache together with the name of the cache, or will this number change when it is published on the 18th?

The GA number is the final number, so you can use it to write on the cache and in the logbook. It won't change.

Did anyone notice my post on the 16 March on this very thread which included a link to the "Lost and Found" 10 year anniversary page? I guess notPapa Bear_Left wrote:Just for the record (and I know it's bad form to stick up for GC on the GCA forum!), the event type was announced on March 15th and had been discussed in vague terms in their forums way back in January. There was a link to the "Lost and Found" 10 year anniversary page in the March 19th weekly mailer as well.rogerw3 wrote:As far as GC is concerned, all I can say is too little, too late. 10 Years! Event Cache- A 10 Years! Event Cache is a special Event Cache type for events held April 30 - May 3, 2010 to celebrate 10 years of geocaching. Source
Guess the boat just sailed without you...

Judging from the 21 events held around Australia and NZ to mark the anniversary and the hundreds of people who attended, I would say a few people were aware of the date!ADV wrote:

Well, I became aware of the Ballarat event on the morning of the event, about 2 hours before it started, simply because I happened to notice it on a map

Two GCA 10th anniversary caches in Canada!! That caught my attention. I'll be there in a few months - I hope they are in British Columbia! Are they in BC? Please let them be in BCcaughtatwork wrote:The two in Canada will probably end up last to find.

They're both in Ontario.
Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
Hurray! I have now finished the last cache for series 3. There are now 3 Series of 10 caches waiting to be found, that is 30 caches strewn along the Blue Mountains from Valley Heights to Lithgow with special emphasis on Lithgow of course.
I only have to place GA2000 and that will be done as soon as I get the FTF pathtag (probably Monday), and maybe a movable cache as well, and I think that should keep almost everybody happy.

Good lord man. You're a one man GCA cache machine. Not that I'm complaining.

If you think that is too much I can always remove some (not!).
Or perhaps do some more after all there are another 11 days left!
Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
Don't hide any more - I'll never get them all in the day I've already planned a day off work to go chasing as many as I can get. Do you reckon I'll need a 4WD and/or topo maps to get many of them? And how many are do-able in the dark?rogerw3 wrote:caughtatwork wrote:Good lord man. You're a one man GCA cache machine. Not that I'm complaining.

Tough question
At least for me, as I only cache on foot and public transport, in this case trains.
You will need a 4WD to get close to many caches, but all are fairly quickly accessible on foot. If you start your run from Valley Heights and work your way up the Great Western Highway you can do a great many, but I doubt all of them. Yes most are doable in the dark, a few are close to cliffs so great care need to be taken.
My descriptions tend to be a bit short but will give you the essential, including cliffs, 4WD if needed and so on.
If you want to start from the Lithgow end, you probably will spend the day here as there are quite a few around!
Not telling exactly how many or where, you will have to wait for the 18th
Good luck, I might work out some sort of prize for the first to find ALL of my GCA 10th caches. maybe a set of GCA pathtags. Advice/opinions please.

Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
A reminder to everyone that has a cache planned for the anniversary.
When your cache listing is ready and your cache is in place, your MUST post a "Published" log against the cache. Use the date of 18-May-2010.
Without a published log, your cache will stay in draft mode and will NOT be published on the 18th.

Why has the total dropped from 150 to 127?
