The co-ords come from GC and GCA caches. In the past we have not handed out the GC co-ords. Not that they're copyrighted or anything, we just don't think they're ours to give away in an easy format.

You can do the painful thing from this:

That way I don't feel like we're giving them away.

It knows the bounds of the map in lat lon. So it plots the points on the map as an offset from a known set of Cartesian coordinates. If I make a map for each state I need to know the exact points of each map and use them when offsetting the lat lon points. So in reality it's a time thing. I don't have the time (or inclination) to make 10 maps (11 if you include AU or 12 if you want NZ) all around 1MB in size, setting up the co-ords and handling them in the plotter. If someone would like to make the images I can change the code.
I spoke to my captive geographer. He had two suggestions, one of which he thought you might not like because it basically involves throwing away what you've done currently.

The first suggestion (which you probably already know about) was to use Google Fusion to access a table of the coords which would allow zooming/panning etc. Not sure how it would go updating this dynamically with new finds though.

He also suggested a source for images files that could be used with the existing code you have created. But you want someone else to do the work, so what are the requirements?
1. Are there any restrictions on the file size?
2. What dimensions does the image need to be?
3. When you say "need to know the exact points of each map", what points do you need? e.g. upper left corner, all corners, centrepoint...?
4. How many files? I make it 1 for each State/Territory (8) plus 1 for Au is 9. Not sure how you get to 11 or 12 (although I dont see a need to change the AU image, it is only the geographically smaller States that are the issue for me, but for consistency I'd probably do all of them).

I'm not promising I can deliver anything, but if I have a better idea of whats involved, I can see what I can do.

I just have a quick question about the forum and logins.

Has something changed in the last few days, requiring you to login repeatedly?
this occurring on my iPhone.
I am guessing that the forum server sees I am on a new ip perhaps, and wants me to re-authenticate??
I visit sites around melb throughout the day, usually joined to a wifi ap where I am at that site.

Could this be the scenario, or will it likely be something else?

Previously I was only needing to authenticate about once a week or so...

Cheers gordo.

We have done nothing recently.

It is more likely it is an issue with your phone/browser than the site.

Check you don't have session cookies being cleared on exit either by the browser or operating system or security software.

We haven't changed anything on the forum software of any magnitude for years

One small thing, when I make an order at the shop, the previous completed order pops up in the basket and you have to manually remove it. Nearly bought the same thing twice ;) ...or is that the plan :P

Data is stored in a cookie. For whatever reason, your computer is not removing the cookie at the end of the transaction. Yeah, that's it, blame the computer.

Rather than deleting this irritating spam, how about we all take turns editing it? Could be fun! \:D/

I'd rather just delete it.

Why does even cache page now have a "Queensland Government - Department of National Parks - Park Alerts" warning/link on it? Even those that are nowhere near Queensland and locationless ones as well...

They should only be showing for GCA caches in Queensland. It's in line with their new geocaching policy requiring each cache page to link to their park alerts page. We've added this to each Queensland cache so the cache owner doesn't have to. We've also not just restricted it to areas under parks control, it's on all pages in Queensland. One small thing we can do to show we are following their new guidelines for geocaching.

Seems there might be an issue with todays- 13/10/12- daily email, not showing 3 upcoming events in Rockhampton, on the weekend of 16-17-18 November. The 3 events have shown up on past daily emails, but not todays. I did check to make sure the events had not been cancelled, but they are still listed.

They got auto archived because there was no activity on them in the last 10 days (or so).
http://geocaching.com.au/cache/GC3T4HJ
http://geocaching.com.au/cache/GC3RNRP
http://geocaching.com.au/cache/GC3T4CF
They're back now.
It looks like the feed for Queensland has gone a bit wonky.
