Re: Did gca disappear?
When in doubt check our twitter updates.
http://twitter.com/GCA_updates
Yes, the Data Centre (DC) at iPrimus at 55 King St,Melbourne lost power from 3:00pm to around 8:00pm (give or take).
As such, our machines lost power.
However, when power came back, the site came up without intervention.
We confirmed we DID have a DB backup from 1:00am this morning so worst case (fire), we would install our backup machine, copy the DB and be back up in a day or two.
It's regrettable that we lost power, but so did a LOT of very important companies so the shit will hit the fan and we get the benefit of riding along on the coattails.

Re: Did gca disappear?
Yes, they do.
The batteries supplied power until they ran out and the generator didn't kick in.
Will be interesting to see what the cause was and why the generators didn't kick in and the plan forward to avoid this in the future.

Re: Did gca disappear?
The high tension fuses in the CitiPower substation feeding our Data centre, failed late this afternoon (Sunday 9th, August).
We have experienced a similar issue several months ago and are in the process of executing a plan to resolve this issue.
One of the emergency diesel generators failed to start due to a synchronization processor failure.
Contents of the synchronization processor's register are being analysed to ascertain the true cause of failure.
The upgrade* of the CitiPower substation that is planned for this coming weekend the 15th August, 2009, will continue.

Power Upgrade at Primus Data Centre Melbourne
Power Upgrade at Primus Data Centre Melbourne
Commencement 7.30am Saturday 15 August 2009
Location Primus Data Centre Melbourne, All Areas
Estimated Completion 6:00pm Sunday 16 August 2009
Risk Medium
Description Upgrade of facility substation
As part of an ongoing project to upgrade power systems at the Primus Melbourne Data Centre at 55 King Street, the following works will be conducted on the date(s) and time(s) above.
No interruption of power to customer equipment is expected, however with all works of a hazardous nature, a risk is present.
Description of works The high voltage electrical substation that supplies primary power to the Data Centre will be taken off-line to allow engineers to install new HT and LT switchgear and transformers as the final component of the recent upgrade. During this time, the entire facility will run on UPS and generator power.
Risk Identified During these works, the Data Centre will not have an external electricity supply and will be reliant on the Primus generators.
Risk Mitigation The generators will be online and functioning throughout these works to supply constant power to the Data Centre. The UPS sets will also be online.
Duration As above
Customer Impact No interruption to power supply to customer racks and equipment is anticipated
Why is Primus performing these works?
As our business grows, along with the ever increasing power requirement of customer equipment, Primus is upgrading the supply capacity of the facility’s high voltage substation. This will allow us to further increase the rack and server capacity of the Data Centre and increases reserves of power.
What will happen if a generator fails during these works?
The facility has two UPS sets (one for each of the two supplies to the rooms and racks). Should a generator fail during these works, the UPS sets will maintain power to the facility long enough for steps to be taken to re-instate the generators to provide additional time to resolve the problem if any.
How do I contact Primus for more information?
You should contact your Account Manager.
(continued)
How will Primus notify customers of any changes?
Primary communications will be in the form of an email notification. A notification will be sent after the works advising on their completion and any additional information.
Should a critical issue occur during the works, Primus will make a decision at that time as to how to notify customers.
• If an issue occurs that has an imminent chance of causing a power outage, which can be resolved before causing an outage, Primus will act on this issue before notifying customers.
• If any issue occurs that can not be resolved immediately, Primus will notify customers immediately.
Do you need to be on-site or available during these essential works?
These works are regarded as medium-risk, and as such customers must decide individually as to whether to implement other precautionary measures during these works.
Whilst Primus does not expect to encounter any problems that will affect customer equipment, the very nature of hazardous works incldues the chance that unforeseen events may occur. Whilst Primus makes every effort to ensure the stability and safety of customer equipment, customers must be aware of the risk and take appropriate measures to respond accordingly, should an unexpected event occur.
Will this information or process change during the works?
Primus will, at its own discretion, adjust or cancel these works at any time should a safety risk (to staff, contractors or equipment) be identified. Whilst Primus understands notification of works must be planned in advance, safety is regarded as the higest priority.
