New Function - A few testers wanted (GPX by EMail)
Hi fellow geocachers.
GCA offers the My Query functionality which enables you to use a simple tick and click webform to filter caches that meet your specifications. e.g. Unfound by me, within 50km from home, with difficulty 3, terrain 2, size large, hidden by caughtatwork, etc, etc, etc.
You can output the filtered caches to:
Screen | GPX* | ZIP | KML | GMAP | RSS | GPS*
This is where you can see the My Query in action:
http://geocaching.com.au/my/query/
For the last two weeks we have been running some tests with our usual battery of Beta testers where you can also nominate to have a ZIP* GPX* file emailed to you on a chosen day of the week based on your My Query.
In other words, they can set up a My Query to select all GCA caches that meet a certain criteria and have them emailed every day of the week, on Sunday or Tuesday and Thursday, etc, etc, to either their default GCA email address or another email address of their choosing.
This way they can use the standard GSAK macros to automatically load these into GSAK and then into their GPS. A simple way to keep up to date with the GCA caches that you are interested in.
Yes, this is exactly like the PQ functionality at Groundspeak, except better i.e. No limit to number of caches in a My Query and ALL logs. You can also select archived or temporarily unavailable caches to keep your GSAK database up to date.
We have half a dozen My Queries running on daily basis at the moment and I would like to extend the test to another dozen or so testers before we let this thing out into the wild.
If you are a regular GCA cache seeker and would like a customised ZIP GPX file of GCA caches emailed to you on a frequent basis, please respond to this thread indicating that you would like to participate.
The first dozen or so that respond will be set up to allow access to the special form values on the My Query form to select a day and email address for those queries.
We'll run the extended test for a couple of weeks and if everything is good, we'll let the masses at it.
Thanks for your interest.
caughtatwork.
* Only GCA caches can been sent to a GPX file, ZIP file or sent directly to your Garmin GPS.

Hi Peter, we would be happy to help test what sounds like a very nice feature, it would save me having to run the export manually each week.
Cheers

I will have a play with it for you.
I run regular PQs to keep my GSAK up to date for all QLD caches.

Yes please me too. I already run a GCA query for unfound GCA cache s to add to GSAK
Re: New Function - A few testers wanted (GPX by EMail)
I'd like to give it a try. I haven't done any GCA caches yet becasue it seems a bit harder to get all the info together and the Pocket Query in GC is so easy. (Plus there are so many caches I haven't found yet, I don't seem to be in any danger of running out of "to find" lists yet!) I'd love to have a go at any GCA caches near home so a regular download of these would be great.
Re: New Function - A few testers wanted (GPX by EMail)
But the queries form in gca is as easy if not easier AND it offers a few more options (see http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewtopi ... =1&t=11921)

I'm up for a go, if you are still looking for a few more people.
Could be interesting to set up a few different GCA PQ.
