Closer?
No, not really.
I've been looking through the code to see what's happening and I have a feeling it's actually the mail server software rather than the forum software.
The mail server software is beyond my abilities, so I'll make sure CR sees this and ask him to check it out.

The feed for NSW is exceeding the number of caches in an individual feed, so some logs and newer caches are being missed.Yurt wrote:Not sure if this is the place for it but I've found a couple of caches are showing up as Archived on GCA when they are okay on GC. I noticed this because one of them is my own.

Another one I saw on my list of finds is listed as archived as well:
http://geocaching.com.au/cacher/Yurt/finds
That one is okay as well as far as I know.
Any ideas? As most people search on GC I guess it's not a major problem but something to be aware of.
I'll try and rejig this tonight and we'll give it a week to play catchup.
NZ is suffering the same problem and (I think) SA are too.

Rejigged NSW and SA and I think NZ is now working.
Give it a week to catch up and report any issues next Friday.

I think I've fixed something that will hopefully cause the New Posts to start working.CraigRat wrote:It appears there's 2 ways phpbb handles this:Jardry wrote:I've changed my URL shortcut for GCA to enter directly into the forum instead of the frontpage of the website to be able to use the "View New Posts" but I am still having problems.
On the main forum page there are at least half a dozen or so sub-forums with orange dots indicating new posts.
Use the "View New Posts" and only ONE topic is displayed.
Could a developer confirm that this is an issue?
What is the preferred process to currently display only new posts?
1) New posts: these are posts that have happened since your last visit ,and
2) Unread posts: Posts that have yet to be read by you, or marked as read.
By default its using method 1, whereas the old forums used method 2
I've found a way to make it use method 2,I just need to implement it.
As the old implementation of phpbb was using method 2, we used the last visit column in the database to store the last visit to the site OR the forum.
So what was happening was that when you hit the SITE, the last visit was updated to today and therefore the forum was thinking you'd seen everything that was yesterday or older.
I've changed that to now hold to different dates. Your last visit to the forum and your last visit to the site.
No guarantees yet, but what should happen now is that any posts that you haven't read since the last time you visited the forum (regardless of whether you have been at the site or not) should now start to show up.
I can only really test this tomorrow morning, so please bear with us a few more days on this one.
We are getting there though.
It would be nice if you can report that it works thought

Will look at it when I can, which isn't right now unfortunately. Things is busy here.

Thanks for that test GabGab, it confirmed that it's now working.

Whatever you did for the new post appears to be working. This is the first time that I have been able to use that function since the change over to the new servers. Much appreciated for fixing it.

Hi Guys,
I just noticed that on the Guru's page, once you search for a guru if you click the contact link you get a 404 error. Perhaps the links changed when the new servers went in.
Cheers.

Re: *** New Site Testing - We need your help ***
A suggestion - can we have a link to the relevant entry on the geowiki in a corner of each page (not in the forums tho)?
Case in point: the Mates page. I've been asked by a newbie, where I was hiding to see him caching - he found the Mates page and saw my name under "seen once or twice" .
I think if the link were there, then it would be easier to find the relevant info in the wiki.
Another suggestion: since we now have new servers, would it be possible to update the home state pages every 3 or 4 hours instead of the current 1 every couple of days (thats what it seems like...) and it could be staggered so the CPU load doesn't go throught the roof doing all states at once..?

Dashboards are every 4 hours I think anyway.
When we (the developers) see a need for a wiki link, we add them in, but of course we know everything, so what we don't know, we don't know.
We can easily add a wiki link for Mates, but of you see things that need wiki links, let us know.

Correct.caughtatwork wrote:Dashboards are every 4 hours I think anyway
As the feeds don't come in any faster than that, there is no need (in my mind) to run any more often than that.
