Re: Early idea for 2013/2014 race
I reckon we should do Gnomes again as they were the best fun and its been three years since we done them so I think it would be ok to go with them again, something about finding and running off with a garden Gnome

I reckon Aliens/Space theme could make for an interesting challenge, see how far the combined moves gets us to the moon or mars or some other exotic space-like place.

Space I like! Deathstar cache
While the movable race is fun something that combines it with a themed game like Geo-Olympics would be awesome. I dont want to mention the "I" word but some sort of cache/territory control game would be interesting.

Re: Early idea for 2013/2014 race
I'm running out of time to do something spectacular this year.
I'm thinking of falling back to the good old moving cache race for this year and hopefully have time to do something more extranordinary next year.
So, if we go for a standard moving cache race, what is the theme?
We have so far:
Spaaaaaaaaaaaaaace
Zombies
Pirates vs. Ninjas

How "Cars". There's lots of them available in the toy shops. And they are supposed to move.

How easy do you want it to be? Dogs - there's one in every shop
Or Elephants - a bit harder to come across or manufacture.

Re: Early idea for 2013/2014 race
Please no more cheap toys ...... they just flood the game and then get left as geojunk after the game. Something more unusual and a bit harder to come by, maybe only one entry per cacher, so the game is not flooded like last year. I still like the gnomes but any garden ornament is ok.

Re: Early idea for 2013/2014 race
Agreed with the one entry per owner.
Tasmania's feed is still full of moveables from last year, and my feel is that the bulk of them are not at the coordinates listed, either because they've been muggled, collected but not logged, collected and logged but not moved, or taken out of the game but not archived.
With the owners not being the hiders, there doesn't seem to be any chain of responsibility, either - the owner gets DNFs and notes, but isn't in a position to check, while the last hider doesn't see the notes.
Another couple of thoughts:
1. Could we have a cleanup of the database before it starts (perhaps a note to the owner of any moveable that hasn't been logged for 6 months, asking them to consider archiving?).
2. Can we have real moves/hides, rather than handing them to each other, or handing them round to everyone at an event (after which there seem inevitably to be a couple which noone knows the subsequent location of), and the odd practice of having them "hidden" in one's front yard for collection. There was a cache last year that was published and hidden by cacher A, found by cacher B, handed it back to cacher A, who handed it to cacher C, who "hid" it in cacher D's front yard (or maybe just gave it to them), picked up by cacher E, hidden, found by cacher D, "hidden" in the front yard of cacher A, who archived it - less than two weeks after it had been published. Is it even anything like geocaching?
