Re: Garmin Oregon 650

OK, so if I throw the 600 down Artemis Lane it won't break, but will it show me where the cache is?

Re: Garmin Oregon 650

Resolved my map issue - on changing the batteries the SD card had fallen out, and was thankfully on the floor of the car. I have also learnt how to lock the SD card in as indicated in the battery space. I have had the same compass issues as maccamob - ie, the arrow taking quite some time to a...

Re: Garmin Oregon 650

I have been using my 600 for a couple of days now and am so far quite happy with it. Had the problem of new GGZ files not loading but that was resolved when I uploaded to the new build version. I loaded about 4000 caches as a GGZ file and found a delay of 2-3 seconds when looking for a new cache. I ...

Re: GSAK on android tablet

But GDAK is just another caching app (not a database app which is what GSAK is) which uses GSAK Databases directly instead of loading GPX files. and then you can't load them back. I did look at this a little while ago and can't remember exactly what happened. I think that the answer was no (as KoT s...

Re: Is it just me?

For what it is worth, I am now back to using my old Garmin HCX, which has a name limit of 14 characters. Hence any similarly named caches come up Abcdefghi01, Abcdefghi02, etc, using GSAK. I suspect that if I used a Groundspeak download, it would overwrite each preceding similar name so that I may e...

Re: "Throwdown" or "angel cache"?

I have been reading this topic with interest and must come down firmly in favour of replacing caches in most circumstances. In fact I find the term "Throwdown" while probably occasionally correct, is generally misleading. Many cachers carry spares around and happily use them to the greater benefit o...

Re: Geocaching Research Survey

Survey done (I once did something similar at Uni so try to help others).

Note though that this is obviously entirely separate to any caching organisation (eg, Groundspeak, Geocaching Australia) and that if you want to change anything there you will be better off approaching them directly!

Re: Those Badges and those Darned logs!

Gee you're a hard crowd to please. If there isn't a thread on too short logs, then there is one on too long logs. At the end of the day it's up to the finder to write about their journey as they see fit. If you want to read them, do so, of not just let them go. Life is too short to worry about if s...

Re: Those Badges and those Darned logs!

. I should point out that there are longer logs that I DO like. In my early days of caching I was quite taken with the quality of logs that maccamob produced. They would always say something nice about the cache experience, (and continue to do so) and that inspired me to try to do the same. If there...

Those Badges and those Darned logs!

There has recently been a bit of a trend towards some very large logs in certain circles. Unfortunately they are not particularly informative, and usually take the form of a general chat about the day, the company, the weather, anything really, but very little about the caching experience, which is ...

Re: Jervis Bay Territory caches - listed as NSW

I am concerned about all those maps that need to be destroyed and reprinted, and all those Satnavs, books.........

Shhhh! Let's just keep it quiet.

Re: Logging Archived Caches

Same as for others I think - if it has been archived I don't look for it, regardless of what type it is, but if I stumbled upon one I would log it. As a classic example, I went looking for a cache in Sydney a few years back. I found it about 10metres from the supposed hide, just lying in some mown g...

Re: Australian Power Trails

I have to say that so far, the Power Trails that have been placed in Australia have been above the ordinary (and I will declare my position - I was involved in one). Why? - Because they have been of very limited numbers, (with the possible exception of the Wandering Heroes, but that is a specific ex...

Re: Australian Power Trails

The Wandering Heroes SERIES in NOT a powertrail even though some people have tried to make it so by dumping caches irresponsibly as close to the road as possible without them actually touching bitumen. It was NEVER set out as a powertrail and few regard it as such. Whether you like it or not...
