Re: Report Site Issues Here

Are we using an old version of UTF-8 or something?

Every reference I look at says UTF-8 can go up to 4 bytes per character. Which suggests that the GPX file meets the standard.

Re: Report Site Issues Here

Are you sure? The first character in the example above appears to be a valid UTF-8 character to me. The 4 bytes in the GPX file are: f0 9f a6 84 Which is exactly how U+1F984 is supposed to be encoded (according to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8) Can you explain which part of that you think does...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

Caches with names containing non-ASCII characters still seem to be causing us problems. For example, see https://geocaching.com.au/cache/gc7xan2 The name starts with a non-ASCII character but for some reason, the rest of the name is missing to. The individual GPX file from Groundspeak shows the enti...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

The dates for most GC events are out by one day on GCA. Not exactly sure why this is, but possibly because Groundspeak are now including the event start time in the GPX file (in the <time> tag) whereas previously this was set to 00:00:00 It is caused by GC failing to fix some issues when they intro...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

On a similar vein when I do imports to help keep the db up to date, I often see messages saying Updated date of log or similar. Whether this is because they have previously been imported and since amended by the finder on the other site I haven't been able to work out. This caused me some confusion...

Re: Report Site Issues Here

I was pushing it to 5-10 thousand (with Chrome on an older machine) before I had problems which is probably ok for most users. Just interesting to note these changes happened without a senate discussion. At first I thought it was a mistake.

Re: Report Site Issues Here

There seems to be an issue with the Google Maps pages. When reloading caches (after the map is moved), the javascript for deleting the old caches from the map has been commented out for some reason. (lines 604-642 of gmap.php) This eventually leads to the browser crashing due to lack of memory.

Re: Stats - Graph of most puzzle cache hides

Yes, he is a member, he logged one of my GCA caches a few months back. I don't think he has any hides on GCA though.

Stats - Graph of most puzzle cache hides

I was talking to Bob from elsewhere today and he mentioned that he might have more puzzle cache hides than anyone else in Australia. So I went to look it up but couldn't find the graph of "Cachers by most puzzle cache hides" - do we have that, and if so where is it?

Re: Report Site Issues Here

Was discussing unloved caches with Freddo and apparently this page runs out of memory for people with 30,000 finds: https://geocaching.com.au/cacher/statistics/Freddo/unloved/ I works for me with 11,000 finds. Thanks for the report. The memory has been increased. The page will take up to 2 minutes ...

Re: Seems like it's time to throw away your maintenance kit

Remember that Groundspeak is an American company with American rules. Why should they care about Australian rules? We only make up a small percentage of their user-base. And most of us keeping paying them anyway, irrelevant of what caches they decide they are going to archive...
