Re: Garmin Birdseye
I did a little demo test in NZ last night, and it seemed to work reasonably well. Of course, I had just installed the latest version of BaseCamp (3.0.1) and the latest unit software (3.4) for my Oregon 550. Will probably shell out for a subscription tonight - having not had any significant UI issues...

Re: Garmin BaseCamp
Not sure if anyone in Australia has tried this. But I downloaded some of the BirdsEye imagery in NZ as a demo to my Oregon 550 using the latest version of BaseCamp. This looks a very promising and cool subscription service - and quite affordable. Check out this thread on our NZ forums for a couple o...

Ooohhhhhh. Now that is a guaranteed way to trap Kiwi'sMoneydork wrote:A kiwi trap involving beer and a meal with some local cachers along with an "attend event" smilie might well do it.

Re: Where would you like to see the next Mega Event held?
A Kiwi's perspective on Wagga: Thought we might have had a few more Kiwi's come over for it, as I didn't think it was that inaccessible. Then again, being school holidays and Easter may have made getting international flights, bringing the kids, and getting camping equipment a lot harder to organise...

A hearty thanks from some of the Kiwis. Again. ;)
As some of you are well aware a handful of Kiwi's yet again made a raid on our flat, dry, big, western isle. The main event, like many others, was to obtain a shiny mega icon ;) 1. The Mega Firstly, the Mega event was great. Such an eye opener in terms of the shear size and organisation. I'm not eve...

the public release of mapping information... are all streets ahead of their Aussie counterparts Not quite ;) Much of the release of mapping information is being based upon the experience of WA work - e.g. WALIS . Likewise, an AU report on The Value of Spatial Information (direct pdf link) puts us b...

Given some of the recent issues in Australia with Park Services locking out geocaching in QLD, NSW and VIC, this item might bring a wry smile, and perhaps even a little ammunition to take back to some of these park services. We've recently discovered that the New Zealand Department of Conservation h...

Re: Garmin Oregon 500 Series with digital Camera
I haven't had time to load the maps yet so that is another thing to work out. If it is anything like the recent software updates to the OR300 et al, map management has got really easy if you have the img files. With recent versions of the software, you can name the map files now, and as long as the...

Just thought I'd let you know that if you've cached in NZ, and want some new maps, I've created a NZ Region map that shows finds by region using the new County functionality in GSAK. Naturally you'll need GSAK 7.5.1+ and the map file from this link on the GSAK forums. Oh yeah - and the FindStatGen35...

I thought about this too whilst ducking into the scrub in NSW and ACT over the past week. Having run into the police on numerous occasions now when caching, the best course is definitely to be open, honest and explain geocaching to them. An arsonist isn't likely to be open and honest - so playing th...

Hi guys. I haven't heard of any other problems on the forums recently. Perhaps a page is cached and it is appearing that you're logged in when you're really logged out? Have you tried loading the homepage, and then forcing a refresh load of the page. This may fix it if for some strange reason you've...

And here we Kiwi's thought that free wifi in Maccas was old news in Australia! We used it extensively in our trip in December - made for good lunch/evening stops to download PQ's, email, and upload and post fieldnotes created at the backpackers in the evenings. It definitely isn't in them all yet, b...

Link to My Settings
For some reason, I always struggle to find the 'My Settings' page when I need it. I just noted that it doesn't actually appear in the 'My' dropdown menu, and was wondering if anyone had ever considered adding to the 'My' dropdown. It would seem like the logical place to put it.
