Re: Recovering a lost GPSr
Hi everyone. Hey thanks for your sympathy and helpful comments. The great news is that I got it back \:D/ Having no luck yesterday we decided to change our planned mountain bike route and instead ride to the cache, get a nearby cache on top of Mt Franklin, then ride back along the grass verge for a ...

Recovering a lost GPSr
Lost my GPSR today at Franklin the Sleeping Giant. I wasn't sleeping but I was giantly stupid, putting it on the bonnet while I restashed the cache then driving off. No sign of it when we went back an hour later. Anyway my questiion is, for those of us that register our devices with Garmin (in this ...

Re: Geocaching really hits the big time - Dilbert!
Mea culpa. You are probably so right it being a Harry Potter reference. Just checked and saw it says 'muggles', not 'muggled'. I'm not too au fait with Harry Potter but presume the term 'muggled' is a geocaching invention albeit based on Harry's 'muggles'? That's my second back to front geocaching r...

Re: GCA Cache Map - GPX imports into Google Maps
This thread led me to create a pocket query for unfound caches within a radius of home. :? Perhaps I was under a misapprehension but I understood Google Maps wouldn't handle GPX files. Certainly they are not listed on the Import screen as a valid import. But I gave it a whirl and to my surprise it w...

Re: Co-ordinate shift.
Hmm, just thought to check the elevation cutoff ](*,) Using Memory Map and a rough visual of the elevation profile from say the picnic area on the E to the summit gives an elevation cutoff of 20+ degrees. Plugging that into Trimble Planner makes a huge adverse difference to PDOP  So maybe af...

Somewhere over the rainbow, you might diary to look at this
When 10th Anniversary fades and you guys get itchy fingers again, here's a little something to add to your consideration list. For the first time I watched the rotating display of cache sites on the home page (not quite sure how they are selected as I noticed some repeats eventually). Anyway like an...

Re: Co-ordinate shift.
The site is at the base of a sizeable granite hill, Mount Beckworth. Don't know whether that could have had some effect. I guess it's possible but 90 meters? It could be a factor Bristlehound. I have orienteered at Mt Beckworth and that is a fair lump of hill rising reasonably steeply. More to the ...

Re: 2000 to 2010 = 10 years of Geocaching in Australia
Have I missed something or is the empty anniversary thermometer on the home page waiting to be gradually filled with 20th anniversary caches? At least I hope it will be 20th as statistically I won't be alive for the 25th

32 hides has got to be better than 4 or 5 FTFs?
Rogerw3 contributed about 13% of all the nation's 10th anniversary hides \:D/ Can't see the state breakdown at the moment but I imagine it represents about 50% of NSW hides =D> Now with all due respect to the Midnight Toilers with their FTFs (and I do admire their fortitude) Rogerw3 has got to be ri...

Re: Co-ordinate shift.
Today when approaching the site to hide the cache I used the GPSr as a check and to my surprise it took me to a spot 20m away. And unlike last time, the GPSr was quiet steady. Left it averaging for nearly 10 minutes while we prepared the hide etc and the co-ords had hardly moved. Same with the Landi...
