Re: Munzees!

Visitors to the Surfcoast might find a few popping up down there from now on ;-)

Scenic views almost guaranteed. There might be a geocache nearby too, or there might not :gnome

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

I would definately have a paid membership for the other features which make downloading PQ's so easy - especially as there are so many geocaches out there these days. This. There are many reasons people hide PM-only caches and personally, I wouldn't bother myself. But the PQ thing, notifications, c...

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

I couldn't agree more +1 on not investing more than you need to until you're sure Although I do consider the $30 for Premium Membership a worthwhile investment simply because it unlocks some nifty ways of querying the GC database. If you decide caching isn't something you want to pursue any longer,...

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

See, this is where I get confused. Now we have GSAK back in the mix along with Geobucket. There seems to be a mix of apps available and as a simple sort of guy I'd like to keep all this minimal yet functional. In your opinion do I need both or only one of these? Basically to geocache I will need: 1...

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

Thanks for the feedback. Looks like I better get myself a proper GPS since my iPad will be limited in some areas. While in Seattle for a conference last year, I went out for a night's caching with someone else from the conference who used an iPad as his GPS and maps. In the urban setting with a goo...

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

The limitiations of the ipad are GPS in only 3G areas??? (I'm not fully sure). This would mean that you can't go for walks and to places where you don't have 3G. Again I would need a user to clarify. You will have limited battery life on the iPad which would limit some hikes. The bit about the GPS ...

Re: N00b With an iPad and Some Questions

I am a little overwhelmed by what exactly is needed to get into geocaching. I read about GPX files and GSAK and various apps and so on and so forth and I am not 100% sure exactly what I need? :?: I'd prefer to just use my iPad for starters rather than buy a proper GPS like a Garmin. Does an iPad ha...

Re: Munzees!

OFFLINE CAPTURES!!!! Were you turned off Munzee by the Data cost or scanning hassles due to poor mobile coverage? In the new Android Beta, they are testing Offline captures! :D Im guessing it wont be long until this is rolled out in the official app, but if you want to help bug test check it out he...

Re: Your hiding style

I always try to find an interesting location and while some of mine are a sistema under a bush/rock/treated pine structure/pile of sticks, I am also starting to try and make tricky/devious/interesting hides as well, especially in the more obvious locations. The "hidden in plain view" type are my fav...

TomTom RAM mount question

Hi, I recently took advantage of the DSE half price sale to pick up an TomTom XXL 540 and while I am pretty happy with the device, I'm much less so with the crappy mount. The ring "clip" arrangement is flimsy and after a few days of use, removing the GPS for security, I'm no longer confident it will...

Re: Log them All! (Trackables)

Nice ! Pity it doesn't allow you to upload photos as well. I find that is the worst part of logging a bunch of trackables. I'm one of those suckers who tries to add photos of each trackable each time I "visit" a cache, although these days, I am bit selective about that and stick to the more interest...
