Re: Oregon 450t - loading GPX files
I've had an Oregon 300 for nearly two years now and this is my biggest bugbear with it. I usually have to load the PQ GPX file at least twice before it 'takes'. I learnt the hard way too but since that time, I try and make sure I check to see if the caches are 'visible' before leaving home. The biza...

But the incredibly great thing is that it has a spell checker!!!! That won't stop you putting "there", "they're" and "their" [-X , "your" and "you're" (sorry Big Matt and Shell  ) [-X , "choose" and "chose" (ugghhh, fingernails down a blackboard on that one :-&) [-X , "its", "it's" and, dare I...

Re: Have you cached on Christmas Day?
Yep, that's our equal 3rd highest find day in December :D (gotta work that Chrissie Pud off somehow  ). In fact, Christmas Day 2005 resulted in our 4th ever unexpected meeting with another geocacher :D . Other Significant Dates: Birthday – done (equal 8th for that month (coincidental date!!! :...

Re: When picking up Geocoins and TBs from caches...
Another option could be that if you pick up a TB that hasn't been logged into that cache yet: 'grab' it from the 'current' holder so that it is now in your inventory place it electronically into the cache that you picked it up from using either your find log or a 'Write note' log if you've already l...

Re: When picking up Geocoins and TBs from caches...
I agree but I get the feeling that newer geocachers out there are not quite sure what to do with trackables. They might see them as normal swaps (hence they go missing, sometimes forever (benefit of the doubt being given here)) or they don't know that they have to take electronic possession of them ...

Re: When picking up Geocoins and TBs from caches...
The other thing I'm noticing more often recently are trackables that are physically in a cache but are not there electronically. Usually, they are still in someone's inventory even though they have been in the cache for quite a while or are in an entirely different cache. Now, it might not be entire...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?
Wow, what are Garmin doing? A comparison of the 450 and 550 shows that the only difference between the two is the 3.2 megapixel on-board camera on the 550, and that doesn't have optical zoom. In effect, you would be paying AUD$150 more (RRP) for the camera! I reckon that the 450 will effectively kil...

Re: Newbie thread: Which Garmin handheld GPS to buy?
Ahh, that explains a lot. There appears to be a few differences between the 450 and 300: https://buy.garmin.com/shop/compare.do?cID=145&compareProduct=14903&compareProduct=63349&compare=compare 2000 WPs (v 1000) 200 routes (v 50) high-speed USB (v normal speed(?)) tilt-compensated, 3-axis compass (v...

WARNING - WARNING - WARNING If anyone has recently bought an Oregon 300, DO NOT CLICK ON THE FOLLOWING LINK (I include myself in that and I reckon I got a fantastic deal after getting the GST refund on the way out to New Zealand in August last year): http://www.ja-gps.com.au/garmin/handheld-oregon-...

Obviously the approvers haven taken note of my postings. The approval of BT I – Under the Clocks on 7 March 2005, which is only 120 m from FedCam , shows a return to sensible cache approving. The other option of a "non-level playing field" approach to approving caches is too onerous to think abo...
