Re: NZ MEGA 2012 - an update

Great to hear this is still in the works. Dunedin will be an interesting spot for a mega. Just hope the weather holds out!
We've only spent a couple of days in Dunedin and would love an excuse to explore it more. Looking forward to updates!

Re: Geotalk episode 73 - Queensland's oldest geocache

Another enjoyable episode =D>

Finally got around to putting the Geotalk phone number in my phone too, so we will call something in if (when) something interesting happens on a FTF hunt or somesuch.

Re: Caching with pets?

Rabbitto's list of pets to take caching - 1. Pointer 2. Adder 3. Bloodhound 4. Ferret 5. Huntsman 6. Homing Pigeon 7. Battery Hen 8. Galah I can see the point of the first 7, but what purpose does a galah serve? :-k As for Mr Squishington's name, it came about as a result of a discussion about name...

Re: Caching with pets?

Had to revive an old thread, sorry. Due to the need to find a cache today to fill our caching calendar, and the need to take our rabbit to the vet to get his sutures out, we ended up caching with a rabbit: http://img.geocaching.com/cache/log/c3aeb0f7-d5da-4633-a55c-ad3674659f4d.jpg Mr Squishington s...

Re: orienteering forums?

I can't remember whether QLD has its own orienteering supplies shop that goes out to events (we're fortunate in SA to have that setup). I wouldn't recommend gaiters from the outdoor shops like Paddy Pallin etc for orienteering. Those gaiters tend to be heavier and designed for bushwalking. Orienteer...

Re: orienteering forums?

I'm not really aware of any good orienteering forums but then I've been a bit less active over the last year or so. I'll ask around. Definitely check out a local event, orienteers are welcoming to newcomers to the point of looking desperate sometimes  Compass wise, absolutely go with a thum...

I second techblazer, and have also used http://www.lildevil.org/microlog which is handy for printing back to back log sheets/stash notes.

Re: check your caches

huxie, it looks like you're quite new, and appears you're caching in Adelaide. Zalgaraith's suggestion is a good one, but let us know which caches in which area you've been looking for here too - there are quite a few Adelaideans on the forum who are pretty familiar with the caches in SA and would b...

Re: Deaddrops (USB). An interesting caching idea.

Like Cached mentioned in the other thread, we had a cache of this nature about 5 years ago: http://coord.info/GCMJHT The main reasons for its demise were, as stated, the council cemented up the old stone wall that it was hidden in, preventing access, and the the owner moved overseas. I don't doubt t...

Re: Language in Forum

no-one needs to get all offended off a general post Something I forgot to add, which I think is very important here. If someone makes a general statement in a public forum, and someone disagrees or even considers it a point of discussion, responding with a counter-argument (again, rationally, objec...

Re: Language in Forum

I think there is a lot of hormones and tempers flying around this whole country at the moment so I think EVERYONE needs to hold their opinions, words and thoughts to themselves unless they are wholesome and constructive to the community as a whole! I both agree and disagree. I think it's unfair to ...

Re: Google Maps - Updated?

No, Google Maps http://maps.google.com.au/ (map view not satellite view) Urban areas probably haven't changed much as they don't have unsealed roads I had a quick look in a familiar area (Adelaide Hills where my parents live, plenty of unsealed roads about the place) and I can't see any difference ...

Re: New GeoCaching Web-Series

Hmmm. I'm in two minds. Positive: Awesome production values. Impressive stunts. Great concept. Certainly a lot of work has gone into this. Negative: The Geohunterz/Geohaterz thing is pretty high on SA cachers list of things they DON'T appreciate in regards to what is happening with our sport/hobby. ...
