I have the file zipped up. It is a .csv and has the name, postcode, state, lat & lon. Where do I send it to. I also noticed that although they are in WA, there are 3 localities that have a NT postcode as the mail is delivered from that side of the border. I used the latest copy of the Auspost file t...

There is not need for anyone to do WA as I have all of localities of WA as a GIS layer. If it is now decided that it is better to have it based on localities with postcodes attached then I will check that the postcodes haven't changed over the weekend and then forward it to Riblit. Riblit I feel tha...

I had a look at the data provided by Dooghan and it would be at least 75% accurate over the Perth Metropolitan area but only about 40% outside of the metro area. There are also numerous entries that shouldn't be there for the type of searching I think you are trying to achieve. Assuming that the acc...

All states have postcodes that are for postal reasons only and do not represent a locality/suburb as such and are generally not for general usage. In WA that is from 6800 upwards. Also you can usually delete anything that does not say Delivery Area in the Category field. It is usually better to get ...

I don't have postcodes as such but I do have all the individual localities of WA in a MapInfo GIS layer. I will see if I can join them together by thier postcode and then get a centroid for each postcode that way. I assume that is what you meant. WA only got the whole state defined with bounded loca...

How does your system determine a postcode exists and where it might be I tried 4 in WA and only the Perth 6000 postcode works as expected. 6149 correctly showed that it was Bull Creek WA but the caches displayed are no closer than about 500km away. 6155 showed as a non existent suburb. (It is Willet...

If you go past the batteries the one negative I've found with the buying the 600 is the cost of the 3 extra features over the 500. When Gwiber decided to buy a GPS she researched it and decided to buy the 400 over the equivelent Garmin models but after 2 dud ones in a row from 2 different stores (We...

MapInfo Pro is what I use to plan with and I have used MapBasic to write GIS functions when I was at work with the government. I don't know anything about the other programs so can't comment on them. MapBasic is similar to but nowhere near the same capability as Visual Basic at version 6.5 and some ...

My two bits worth in relation to the batteries only. I have used both types and find that it is easier for me not to have to change batteries in the field and as a personal preference would pick something that didn't require me to if everything else was equal. On the comment by EcoTeam (and now hydr...

I have been using a bluetooth Navman with the smartST software and it never gives any trouble whatever screen you are on unless you start running other programs with smartST. My first caches were done from the GPS screen and I never had any trouble until I started using GPSSonar as well. I drove all...

Are all the points off by the same amount. The reason I ask is that I have found a significant number of sources in NSW have never shifted to GDA94/WGS84 datums and are still producing data in AGD66. (And what is worse they don't seem to be telling anyone.) If this is the case then they can all be s...

This is off topic but I also added another image to the gallery of Canberra for you to look at. This is how I see your city as I don't have access to detailed images or any detailed vector data for Canberra but it would be enough to get around on with a physical map of Canberra. MapInfo doesn't seem...

I have been using the GIS program MapInfo Professional for a number of years and have always had difficulty to get it to display 'conical' data projections produced by the state govt agencies who, until recently, were using CAD programs to store their GIS/Mapping data. It seems there are a few more ...
