Re: Earth Science Cache
Paragraph 6: 'server' should be 'serve' Paragraph 9: ‘at’ written twice in a row. Last one should be 'an' This sounds really good. Good idea having hiders list the q&a in the cache description too, so they can be logged online later. Lots of subject matter within the four Earth Science spheres too. ...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia
I know. It's really getting in the way of the important things in life. Here's the link to my Youtube Geocaching & Trig vids that I forgot to attach to my last post, because someone at work distracted me. They really have no idea of what is a priority in this place. If anyone want to chop up t...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia
Some good ideas here. I’ve got a playlist of geocaching and trig hunting videos that can be ripped and used in whatever format people want. Some have music in them that the owner allows the content to be used on Youtube, but should be left out if reusing any of this content. The editing is pretty ba...

Re: Earth Science Cache
I suppose we need to start with the definition of Earth Science. It seems to be reasonably loose – dictionary.com says its “any of various sciences, as geography, geology, or meteorology, that deal with the earth, its composition, or any of its changing aspects”. Britannica says its “the fields of s...

Re: Logless cache idea
I know a lot of cachers that prefer virtual style of caches over physical ones. They’ll actively seek them out as a prioritiy. National parks (in NSW & QLD) are definitely a problem when it comes to hiding physical caches. The approval process is exactly what you’d expect from a government run branc...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia
I'm happy to get a few shots of the app working in the field and some screenshots too. I haven't checked out hitrecord.org yet - will have a look and see what it's all about. I'm not sure how much space we'll need to start off with. Dropbox has free 2GB accounts and I think OneDrive has 5GB. If hitr...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia
Here’s a few ideas on some content I think could benefit us: 1. How easy it is to geocache here. • I’ve heard a few comments in my time from non-GCA cachers saying they don’t know how to go about finding stuff on our site. These are folks that have never used a GPSr and want their phone to point the...

Re: Logless cache idea
Oh, wow! You could have a stall at the market and sell those things! They’d be fun containers to find too. Maybe rather than a Logless cache type we could have something like an EcoCache. This could be a new cache type that: • Includes Physical Caches designed to be biodegradable eventually (i.e. no...

Re: GCA Social Media - Calling for content creators - Geocaching Australia
I’d like to contribute and help with this. I’ve been on a few good adventures lately – hiding GCA caches, and finding GCA caches and trigs. I think I easily take some good video and edit it/upload it myself, or forward to someone else that would like to manage the editing and uploading. Creating som...

Re: GPSr screens in a storm
I’m interested to see if Apple’s iPhone 14 Emergency SOS via Satellite is taken up by hikers in place of things like the Spot Messenger or inReach devices. If you’re only a casual hiker and don’t do too many multi day hikes it could be a compelling reason for some to upgrade/change to the current Ap...

Re: Logless cache idea
I don’t think we should change anything on Traditional Caches. As mentioned, they’re no longer Traditional if we change the way that cache type works. I’m thinking that this style of hide could fit into the Unknown/Mystery type. I think the hider should select the container size to be ‘Other’ – if t...

Re: Logless cache idea
Interesting idea! They could work sort of like an ‘Easter Egg’ hunt – I suppose they could be listed as an Unknown/Mystery cache, however would need the ability to enforce a codeword on these. I can see these would be fun to find. Less maintenance too for the CO, and you could get pretty creative wh...

Re: GPSr screens in a storm
Hey Wayn0, I have an eTrex SE at the moment, and had an eTrex 10 prior to that. Both not touch screen, but both ‘mini’ in size. I like that you can use them when its pouring rain and don’t have to think twice about them getting wet or muddy. The eTrex SE (as well as some of the other new Garmin devi...
