Our web site http://mega.gps.org.nz has only been up and running for a day and already we 222 registrations of interest, 93 of which are from Australia. Please keep them rollng in - remember, we need 500 to get MEGA status (and so get our cache page published now, 12 months ahead of the event rather...

Its certainly an option that we've been discussing as the organising committee.
We'll wait and see where all the people registering interest are from before we approach the airlines though.

The website is still being developed and will be added to and extended as more information becomes available / is ready for release.

Some dates for planning;
The NZ MEGA is planned for 19th to 22 October 2012. This is New Zealand's Labour weekend (Monday 22nd is a public holiday).
The general location - Dunedin is confirmed, however the specific location (where abouts in Dunedin) is still being finalised.

I'm now deciding between October 2011 and October 2012!!

We currently have 300 or so who have indicated that they will attend - and I'm aware of a number from further abroad (the US and Europe) who are interested if its October 2012 - so October 2012 is the most likely outcome.

My guess is Bendigo.
Visited there on my way home (well, its kind of on the way to NZ... Isn't it??) from Wagga Wagga and had a great time - but did run out of cachers to do after a couple of days.

I hope the impending announcement of the next Australian mega event doesn't put off a NZ event, as I like many would be keen on the idea of one being in NZ. :D I guess that would depend on when the next Australian mega event is - as I'm not sure that there'd be much value in having two australasian...

It has been 8 months since Oz Mega & there has been no plans outlined by a NSW, VIC, ACT, SA, or QLD group to run a Mega in OZ in 2012.
