The idea to dip the device into fresh water was to try to negate the effects of the salt water as soon as possible. As my camera was basically cactus anyway whatever I did was going to be a bonus. I would think that a number of cachers would see a DNF as admitting failure. Human beings generally don't like to fail at something they are trying to achieve. AAAAHHHHHHHH......... beautiful Lake Macquarie!!!! We have a place at Gwandalan and I regularly sail on that magnificent waterway. It is a true gem!!
