Re: Fastest 100 finds
My first 100 was in 28 days (according to GCA but GSAK says 26 days) - equal tied with McPhan. Then again McPhan had less caches to choose from way back when he started as he is a much older cacher

Sensitivity of Garmin Etrex H vs Dakota 20
Hi all, Being an owner of both these devices I have noticed that when setting up a string of caches lately the Garmin Etrex H has been indicating a smaller range of distance variance (ie better accuracy) than my Dakota 20 and thus I have been using the Etrex's co-ords instead. The difference being f...

Re: Noob needs a little help
It all depends on your caching habits. If you are happy to cache in towns, cities maybe a general street directory type of map will suit your needs. If you are feeling a bit more adventurous and willing to get out there in the bush I would recommend that you think about getting a topographic map (su...

Re: Noob needs a little help
In regards to maps you can pay Garmin a fair amount of money to purchase their own quality product or, if you do not want to pay any more monies I would recommend two free map products which will basically give you the same result. These being: Topographic map - http://www.lizarddrinking.net/ and St...

Re: Burke & Wills - Markers / Cairns
In my opinion some of these locations would certainly be classed as significant enough to deserve the listing.
Just my 2c worth.

Re: Burke & Wills - Markers / Cairns
Looking good! Are all/some of these items going to be added to the GCA database? I can see arguments for both sides of this concerning whether they should or should not.
Cheers!

Re: Burke & Wills - Markers / Cairns
Check out http://www.burkeandwills.net.au/Memorials/heritage.htm and look on the left hand side of the web page for other links of interest. Even includes KMZ files but not all heritage sites are specific for the actual expedition.

Re: Burke & Wills - Markers / Cairns
Oops - sorry - just realised you are after co-ords for a specific Victorian expedition.
Still may be of interest to place in the database though.
Details now in OP

Re: Garmin Birds Eye View
Looks very tempting - and at only A$39.95 per year. I wonder how old the satellite data is and which data are they using. I might have a shot at it and see what it looks like. I also wonder whether using such maps causes a faster drain on the batteries as well because of the extra detail and process...

Re: Topo Australia V2
They might be a poor man's map but there certainly are effective. Got my thumbs up for product! They sit on top of all other maps and you can turn them on and off without affecting the other maps. A poor mans topo map.

Re: Topo Australia V2
On my Dakota 20 I have a number of maps loaded (4 actually). I usually run with 2 maps enabled at the same time - this being the OSM street map (free download) and Contours Australia (free download). This allows me to use street maps as well as well see the contour lines overlaid on it. If I am basi...

For the Dakota 20 - you choose Setup - Maps - Choose whatever map name your are interested in - Disable in your case.

Re: Confusion - Why should I use GCA instead of GC.com?
Many thanks for the response Caughtatwork. It looks like I may have to use both systems as what I have been doing. If we log cache finds on GCA (even for GC caches) do these finds eventually get logged/uploaded to GC?
Cheers!
