I'm all for locationless, as long as it's something cool and not on every street corner (big things and mermaids cool, fire trucks and old signs not) Not sure how that would be monitored but hopefully we can keep it to worthy and exciting You can't do that, except perhaps with a user rating system....

Brilliant work! The format is great, but I have a suggestion for the format ting . The columns are longer than the screen, and require scrolling down, then scrolling back up for the next column. That's at 1024x768 resolution. No, keep it the way it is. The layout (like most PDF documents) is not de...

From todays Crikey - Tree planting schemes are immensely valuable in that they repay the land clearing carbon debt, and may have additional ecological and economic benefits. But they should be considered an adjunct to cuts in fossil fuel emissions, not an alternative. That last sentence is the key,...

OT(sort of): Carbon Emissions While Caching

Most of us drive our cars while caching, and for many that involves a LOT of driving. Actually I probably rank Geocaching as one of the top sports/hobbies that contribute to global warming through the carbon emissions from extensive use of our cars. How about we all think about going "Carbon Neutral...

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

If Linux can't read NTFS out of the box then that's a fairly big minus in my book :(, but I guess I could simply reformat it and transfer the data back. Dave :) You can always load the linux NTFS drivers from linux ntfs either as an RPM for Red Hat and Fedo...

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

Tech question. Does Ubuntu/Linux read/write external USB NTFS hard drives? e.g. If I had an XP machine and a Linux laptop could I simply (i.e. seamlessly) exchange the drive between machines? EcoDave :) Good question! :) I think it is possible, but not out of the box as NTFS read/write support is s...

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

Still not convinced? I have a pile of Ubuntu CDs that let you take a test drive before installing. There are also VMWare images [15] available so that you can run Linux within windows. How do I get one of those CD's Rog? Or can I simply download it from a site somewhere and burn my own? OMG...

Saying that, they have never been part of a record attempt. But should all their finds count as part of the same "score"? It doesn't worry me, they cache how they want to. I might think it wrong though if they claimed a record with two people in different places at the same time. That's happened on...

Re: Do we have any Linux users in the Audience tonight?

Own up - put your hands up high, even if your dual booting. What sort of Linux are you using. Why the change. How long have you had it? Give us a genuine review? What are you using it for? Mapping, Home products, Graphics etc etc Bronze. - I'm seriously considering changing over to the dark side - ...

So let me propose a new solution Sounds like a good idea... but its not going to stop people trying to do more caches in a day then the last person did. It's not designed to, it's an interesting alternative to add a different "competitive" nature to caching so more people can play. Some of my best ...

I have never understood this "most caches in a day" thing. I'm all for contests, they are fun, but in this case there is virtually no correlation between any two attempts iny any way which makes the results all but meaningless. Add in the fact that you have to cache over 24hours rules out the majori...

Hi The one I was looking at was $135.00 + postage for 200 GB. You getting a better deal? Andrew Looks OK except its a Seagate. In the past 6 months I have replaced 22 Seagate HD's... 3 of them were less than a week old. Nothing wrong with seagates, you must have had a bad batch. At work we have use...
